Another A330 reconfig?!

I just heard that the 330's will get a new onboard entertainment system at each seat that will make Jet Blue's product look like old technology. Live tv, games, and movies all for a fee in coach, free in Envoy. This system will be mostly wireless technology to reduce weight and maintenance. This same source said LCC was going to improve the international operation in all areas.

I kind of doubt it. But we shall see.

I hope you are right.

Sounds great but I have heard so much crap I'll believe it when I see it.

Just flew with a check pilot to ARN and he said we Are getting the 340 !! They already know which pilot's are going to be training on it.

FWIW, check pilots are the absolutely least reliable source for rumors. They have been a conduit for company propaganda for years.

The A340 is nothing but a carrot, intended to lead the East pilots toward another concessionary contract.

And more than a few of them will take the bait.

Oh wonderful. More "cheapening" of a possible good idea.

I wouldn't mind paying for seat-back entertainment on domestic, but on international?!?!

I can't think of anyone that charges intl.. or at least let there be a "free" channel or two...

Can you please find out if we are for sure getting the A340, and when? Buenos Dias!~!

Interesting, there was a ground school instructor bid just out, and supposedly it included a340 instructor positions, effect for Jan. 08......though if anything I would imagine that's just for planning in case something like that comes along......just rumors....

Had U's FAA POI in the jumpseat a couple weeks ago, he said the 340 is coming on property sometime next year.....another "take it for what it's worth".

My friend Rose just called and said that she listend to Scott Kirby today at the training center in phx and "they are evaluating" a possible removal of some seats on the A330. He said taking out seats would cost around 10,000,000 in revenue a year!!!

How many seats equal $10M/year in revenue??!

I suppose it depends on what the average revenue of a seat is on an A330. And this would be something averaged across all the routes the A330 flies, taking into account loads (i.e. not all Y seats are fully occupied on every flight).

I couldn't begin to come up with a number. How many ave. days/month does an A330 fly? Let's throw 25 out as a number. 25 days x 2 legs = 50 legs per month = 600 legs per year.

If one seat has an average revenue of $400 revenue per leg, that's $240000 per seat.
One row would be $1.9M/year in revenue.

There are so many more metrics that would go into this, but I can't see how even 2 rows ($3.8M using my fuzzy math) would come near $10M in annual revenue unless the average revenue per seat is far higher *AND* the yields support it.

Anyone closer to the numbers willing to chime in?

This is precisely what the problem is with Tempe. They are always able to give some quantitative value for how much revenue we will lose/make if we remove/add seats, but they are unable to quantify or fathom how much revenue will be lost bc customers will forever turn away because of bad experiences.
