Doesn't take them long to get it out to the press!

Well, somebody is getting more than I. The article says we have 74,000 employees. $6 million divided equally would be $81.08. I, and 16,000 other flight attendants, got notice we are getting $50 each (minus taxes, of course). And, we have to go into the MOD at the airport to get it. The new improved touchy-feely AMR will not do something cold like direct deposit into my bank account. I have to go pick up a paper check at the airport (17 miles from home) then deposit it in my bank (3 miles in the other direction). Drive 40 miles for about $35. Oh well.

Did AA give you a candy bar with that check? I'm just asking.....

It's AA's fault that there's taxes? AA is requiring Jim to make a special drive out to the airport and deposit the check all in the same day?...

Let me get this right.... The company gives you a bonus (yes, a bonus, since many of you seem to think anything that isn't part of your base pay is a bonus), and you complain.

If you're so offended, feel free to sign your check over to the charity of your choice, or pick a furloughee at random, and send it to them. I'm sure either one of them will be happy to get the face value of the check...

Or simply don't cash the check. You'll be assessed taxes, and the company will eventually get the money back when the check ages.

The funny thing with this payout is it is a paper check!
Do you all remember some years ago when we were forced to go to direct deposit for our payroll checks?

My my how things change!

Don't you report to work at the airport? Why not pick it up before/after your shifts or during a layover? The taxes you are referencing are being withheld and bonuses pay is taxed at a higher rate. Once you file your 2011 federal and state income taxes, if you normally receive a refund you'll still get some or all of this money refunded back like any other payroll tax. As Eolesen said, if your time is so valuable that you can't be bothered picking it up complain about the amount just don't take part. The company can do no right it seems.

If your bank is 20 miles, its probably time to find a new bank.

Better yet...What is wrong with direct deposit? After all we were forced to change to that method quite a few years ago.

I agree AA should use a direct deposit for these-bonuses in the financial services sector are direct deposited, albeit separately and from a separate cost center account. That's beside the point. Point is, you all work for AA, and the company decides when, how much, and how it disburses these payments to the employees. If you don't like what the company has to offer don't partake. How much of a hassle is it to pick the check up and then deposit it at an ATM? Personally, I haven't seen any of the exemplary service that warrants recognition let alone bonuses (and believe me I set my expectations accordingly when I set foot AA aircraft). I flew CX JFK-HKG in F recently and had an okay experience, but its still miles ahead of a great AA experience in terms of customer service.

You out trolling again Josh? What's the problem, couldn't catch anything on the other boards/forums. You're such a joke that whenever I see that "737823" involved in a thread, I have to stop by and get my daily chuckle! Oh, and if you don't like the service, "don't partake!!

If you will remember, when they started this bonus stuff, it was direct deposited. And, for some work groups it still is. For flight attendants, we have to deal with a paper check now; so they can thank us personally as they hand us the check. Problem is, the handing out is turned over to the poor MOD staff who have quite enough to do already. But, doesn't that make you feel all warm and fuzzy?

I'd much rather the company get serious about negotiating a new contract with us that restores what we gave up in 2003 so that executive bonusses could be continued on a regular basis over the ensuing years. After all, the reason they forced everyone to go to direct deposit in the first place was to cut costs associated with paper checks and the handling, etc. These meaningless gestures are increasing costs while the execs whine about needing to cut costs.

The company will mail the checks to your house after about a week.
I never go to flight service office. But they always mail the check about
a week later.

OK, the paper check thing is a bit out of place.

I love direct deposit, and haven't stepped foot in a bank lobby or deposited a check at an ATM in two years, but believe it or not, I enjoyed passing out paychecks (and then pay stubs before ePays came out).

If nothing else, it gave me the chance to thank my folks on a regular basis for showing up to work, and see how things were going if somehow we hadn't crossed paths in the previous two weeks. I don't think it's a coincidence that so many people feel disconnected from their manager or supervisor these days. But I digress...

Josh, every time I think you've hit rock bottom with your comments, you manage to dig yourself an even deeper hole...

The flight attendants should all stop picking up their checks and just wait for them to be mailed out. That's what I do, even though I'm by the flight service offices all the time. I refuse to pick up my check in person. I'm not going to participate in their warm and fuzzy dog and pony show. If AA wants to waste money printing paper checks and taking managers away from doing more important duties at their desks to pass out checks, then let them waste even more money on postage. But I'm certainly not going to waste my time going out of my way to pick up a check for $39.19.

I can do without the candy bar and the apathetic handshake. MAIL MY CHECK!!!!
