Anyone see the article in the Charlotte Business Journal? There's a quote from Dr. Bronner from an interview with the Washington Post...

"I think US Airways has too many hubs and its hubs are too close together."

Forgive me if it's been posted before. Not exactly earth shattering, but interesting nonetheless... any comments?

Yea, Bronner's an ***! Thought I needed to repeat that.

I find great irony in the fact that the Teachers Federation Union (RSA invested) pension fund has been preserved on the backs of the unionized workers at USAirways, who have had their pension funds terminated and concesions given at $1.2 Billion from labor to maximize RSA share holder value. And this management still can't make the numbers work. So, concession #3 again for the sake of RSA's investment ( Teacher's pensions and unionized state worker's pension) can not continue to be placed on the backs of more sacrifices from labor.

RSA who trusts this management is going to have to trust that they can run an airline because further labor participation is not going to happen with this management. There exists a "hostile" environment and much Labor unrest. Management has shown no concern to move forward to "mend" any fences.

O.K. So how do we reconcile Bronner's comment that U has too many hubs with his comment from 2 weeks ago that U has no intent of abadoning the PIT hub?

I noticed that too and thought that was very striking. I was surprised no one had brought it up here until now.

This should be a BIG warning, the same as his quote last week to the effect that employees will once again be expected to cave, or U will cease to be.

As if U didn't have hubs in CLT, PHL, and PIT when he made his investment in U??? Did he not do his homework before investing in U, or is he now having buyer's remorse and is looking for any excuse to pull the plug?

Unions today based on what I observe are nothing more than fund raising entities for the Democrat Party.

That's just not right. All unions aren't fund raisers and all Republicans aren't a@@h*&%s....it just seems that way. ;)

Just goes to show ya. Don't believe anything you read and if their lips are moving, don't believe that either!

I think you are correct, Bronner is the man standing behind the curtain pulling the string on the clowns!!!! :p

Bob & AP Tech,

I don't think that Bronner is an "airline" man. If he has any experience in this area I haven't seen it anywhere. Given that, I would expect him to rely on the experience of the CEO or replace him with someone whose advice he trusts.

This is not to say that Bronner isn't calling some of the shots. However, if Bronner is calling for a "fast ball" and Siegel knows that a "curve ball" is needed, then Siegel is responsible for not convincing Bronner that his course of action is wrong.

Bronner seems to be like the idiot at the party who doesnt know much about anything but will say something anyway. Not only this, but he also likes to tell reporters around the holidays that he'll shut down the airline.

And this is the guy who commented that if UA went under perhaps U would be interested in some assets at... drumroll please... Washington Dulles.

Agreed Bob,

Wasn't it Bronner who said that the PIT was a part of our future plans and then later said we have too many hubs too close together?
