Alpa Mec Meeting Update

Oil at 50$ a Barrel = Even less time to screw around.

And... IF we do not have agreements in place leading into the Holiday season, the News will point it out (always enough reports out there looking for a scare angle), and guess how many passengers will count on US Airways to get them where they want to go for the holidays...

nada :(

Rico, why even worry about the above now, when management has been pushing the customers away to the Lccs and other legacies since the first bankruptcy !!!

Here comes a 23% pay cut for any union without an agreement, right before the holidays.

Phoenix:

Every union has a choice. For example, the AFA received an option to obtain a 14.5% pay cut last night, versus the potential 23% pay cut that could come as early as Thursday.

This has nothing to do with limits, it has everything to do with mathematics and completing a business plan the creditors (ATSB, GECAS, Airbus, etc) and bankruptcy court will support. It's really plain and simple. The creditor's could care less if it's the holiday's or workers are so called "impoverished". These men and women look at one thing: a spreadsheet, which must project profits.

Especially given US is in Chapter 11 #2. That being said, something needs to be said about the interaction of a work force's morale and the balance sheet. New contracts are needed and must be achieved, yet at the same time if everyone is pissed off that will only further drive customers away, exacerbating the "booking away" problem already happening.

That is Dumb to think customers care what management has/has not done.

Get a clue, today's customer does nothing more than look on a website for the lowest price. The next criteria is if it is a direct flight, past that they could give a crap about what management has or has not done with Airways.

It is no different that people's affinity for shopping at WalMart. Customers just want low prices, they do not care about what the employees are paid, they do not care if the workers in the meat section are unionized, and they do not care if the item they selected off the shelf was made Overseas or in Mexico/Latin America.

They just want a decent quality level at the lowest price possible. WalMart level Quality, meaning that they do not want to pay a premium for quality, they just expect it to be safe and reliable, but nothing fancy that they would have to pay a premium for.

The People that want the best, willing to pay the price...? They are skipping the airlines altogether and going with fractional jets instead...

The only loyalty that the average customer has nowadays is to price.

Sometimes that is true. But have you shopped Wal-Mart's Produce section? The flies are horrible. I will never buy food at Wal-Mart.

U.S. Airways union leaders face weighty decision

"The further delay in finally allowing our pilots to determine their futures is in no one’s best interest," said U.S. Airways spokesman David Castelveter. "A consensus agreement is always preferable, yet we have no choice but to proceed with the interim relief motion and hope that ratification occurs prior to the court imposing a decision."

The spokesman for the pilots, Jack Stephan, could not explain why the leadership committee members from Philadelphia and Pittsburgh needed more time to review the tentative agreement. "It’s essentially the same document they have been looking at for the last month," he said.

Well, FWIW, I will NOT shop at Walmart. The aggravation is not worth saving a few pennies. And, for places like Ikea, JC Penny, etc., I still think you end up spending more in the long run, so I tend to buy more expensive things initially and keep them longer.

Rico,

I think you're selling some of your best customers short. We have repeatedly stated we don't need the CHEAPEST fares--we want FAIR fares--there's a big difference.

We are willing to pay reasonable prices for the service we receive from US-in fact we told management this when we met with them--we do not require the $29 to $49 fares--we acknowledge them as being too low. We will not pay $950 for LGA-CLT however.

What we want is the survival, long term viability and future growth of US Airways. I am not getting in the middle of this argument here but don't think that your best customers would leave over a dollar either.

My BEST to you all...
