Word on the hangar floor tonight was the union was notified by the company that the first Airbus will land in Alabama on Monday. IAM will then go to court to file an injuction. The word came down about 8:30pm and the brakes seemed to come on about 5 min later as the word spread. Let the games begin!!

The brakes have been on for quite some time. Fastest I've seen mechanics move over the last few weeks was when two came on my flight the last Tuesday with plastic bags in hand to raid the Einstein meals. I thought they were there to service my hydraulics, but I was informed that someone else would have to do that.
I don't like this nonsense about farming out maintenance, but there are remedies for this, namely the court system. Slowdowns are ILLEGAL.
Do this the right way folks and you'll have my FULL support. Unfortunantly many of you have written off the company AND the IAM. To those I would say, the company has already won.

They probably needed food for their families.

--Thank you for your full support A320 Driver.

which station/hangar are you talking about? ;)

Dear 320 Driver
I am a mechanic currently laid off with this airline. If this management would do the right thing and have the work done in house, as they have stated it would be during our negotiated contract cuts, I might have a chance of being recalled. As it stands, I am out the door looking in! How long in your mind should the courts have for a decision to be made one way or the other. What if it takes 2-3 years with appeals and the such . Is that ok to keep people on the streets, out of work waiting for a decision to be handed down??
Lets change the scenario just a bit. Lets say you were the one laid off, waiting to come back, and the company came down ,saying all planes carrying less than 150 passengers will now be flown by another carrier, using our routes, our planes, with our logo, to help save money. The union slaps down their contract yelling thats illegal! The mechanics say, well at least we still get to work on them, we think the courts should deside, and you know, slowdowns by the pilots are illegal. Hows that for solidatary BROTHER!! How long should you be out of work while the process works it way through the courts, whatever time it requires.
I would be interested to hear your thoughts on how long usairways employees should be out of work while we let the courts deside the legallities of our contracts.

P.S Remember, your the one flying that maintence by the lowest bidder. And it will be you, who will be the first at the scene of the accident when it happens, and it will happen. Good luck letting the courts decide all our fates.

We hang TOGETHER or we hang separtly

Hawk,
The notification came from Frank Schifano advising the shop stewards what was happening. The word came from our shop steward. The A/C will be in Alabama Monday. I seriously dobt this is a false rumor, but I will check back with you on Monday!!

I heard the same thing, but nobody is putting the brakes on.
Stop spreading negative influences.

Sorry, It was a poor choice of words on my part. Better choice of words may be the those on the floor were disappointed! Hopefully this will all be decided in court with a positive outcome for all those involved.

Just a question? So...please do not get offended Hawk.... you are management, right? In the wholy CRYSTAL CITY? Just a rumor...that I kinda beleive.

If this word did indeed go out yesterday, why has the IAM not updated the websites since Thursday? Both www.iam141m.org and www.machinists1725.org have an October 2 update, but nothing else.

What happened to going directly to the public about the flying public's safety being farmed out to the lowest bidder to put public pressure on the company to keep the work in house?

Having 400 people show at a rally in CLT is certainly very impressive, but I had expected a better media/public relations blitz to draw national attention to this issue.

So far nothings happened yet. If the heads up notification is true, there will still be no contract violation until our work is actually done by someone else.

Flying it to someone elses hanger and parking it there is not a violation of the contract.

Which brings us to why the company would fly one of our aircraft to some off-site hanger. One would assume that there should be some kind of contract in place that would be a reason for it being there. So far no such contract has been revealed.

As of Saturday Oct. 4th, no third party heavy maitenance has been performed (to our knowledge), just rumors and speculation.

If it does happen, your labor group will be notified within channels according the to AFL-CIO guidelines.

On the other hand, it should be an interesting week!

The only word I've gotten on all of this is from PIT Heavy....and the only supporting comments were this.

1 Foreman from PIT Hangar 5 whom was formerly from our Airbus Checks in TPA before the closure...has been sent to Alabama..along with an Inspector from PIT.

The rest is purely whats been stated about the lodge in PIT informing "Shop Stewards"..

As N628AU has stated...We have no official word from the IAM down here...and the websites are remarkably dead silent on this subject.

N628AU....rest assured that there is a reason that the IAM has not drummed the beat on this subject any harder than what we are seeing....it's a definate area that could cut both ways...if you looked at what the industry has lapsed into in this regard.

I cannot understand why the IAM has not come out and told everyone that the company has informed them of thier intentions...and time line

I can certainly understand the company not going public....it's one last weekend of relative calm before the real fight begins.

repeet,

That's not entirely true in a literal sense. I know for absolute fact that tools and parts have been sent to ARA ( New Iberia La.) to clear MEL's while the Acft was supposed to be getting re-painted. Who performed that work???? The painters???

The issue was purely an MEL that was dropping dead before it's direct return from ARA to CLT...thus hindering an immediate return to revenued service upon arrival in CLT.

I am also very aware of Main Wheels and Tires being sent to ARA...and being changed there. I know because CLT had problems doing the DDE's when the Acft returned to CLT.

This brings up another interesting issue...on who's minding the store. Why would we knowingly dispatch a plane with a tire that's border line...to a off the beaten path place like ARA to begin with?

Records show that 3 B737 Main Wheel and Tire Assemblies were sent there....I guess they were planning on a few foul ups along the way.
