What's new

Airbus A321 AC 191

You dont need a hangar to change a landing gear, plenty of work is done outside without hangars.

In CLT they use to do the bulkhead repairs on the 737s outside due to lack of hangar space, engine changes are done outside at stations where there are no hangars.

Sooo How is living in the past working out for ya?

Nice response weak beak...some of us remember what it was like to
work at an airline where people (management ) gave a damn.
You obviously have no clue. Now, go crawl back in your hole.

don't let the faa know....substantial repair (not classified as minor) must be done in an enclosed structure, ie, a hangar. They tried tents before, and that was not approved.
cheers.

TPA Maintenance. The best thing USAirways ever had. Thrown in the dumpster like the jobs that went with them, along with the APU shop, the engine shop, the machine shop, the seat shop, the instrument shop, the hydraulic shop, the weld shop, the slide shop, the...............................

I hear ya and agree.....

Besides, we are probably talking french and german engineers here. God forbid they work in something other than ideal situations.......Just sayin'...

You need hanger space for this one. It's an involved repair. Outside of Airbus, only PIT has the experience to do the job.

Maybe the Carolina Air Museum could use another airbus airframe.

CLT heavy has done gear work on all the fleet types, they did all the upgrade gear on the A330, I would think CLT can do the work also. And this work can be done outside, just have to put the plane on the wing jacks, tailstand and nose jack.

And wait for a thunderstorm or heavy wind to come. Then the rib 5 won't be such a big deal compared to what else can happen.

The plane was gone from the hardstand tonight so it must be locked up inside a hangar. They had the doors on both hangars pulled partially shut so couldnt see in. Definitely know the bird didnt fly away so its gotta be in one of them.

Both A/C 890 and 867 had major damage and was fixed outside in CLT, both were F100s, 890 landed with no nose gear deployed and 867 was damaged in BHM patched up down there and ferried to CLT.

There are plenty of examples of major work being done outside without any hangar.

Many 737 bulkhead repairs were done outside in CLT when the hangar was at max capacity.

Sure, a lot of maintenance is done outside, but some procedures require winds to be light enough for long enough to allow completion of the procedure. Do you want a plane on jacks outside with a 50 knot wind? Thunderstorms (and some tornadoes) are popping crazy lately in the Tampa Bay area.

Big safety push going on now, so I highly doubt a company would want to violate its own MPPM by jacking an aircraft outside for an extended period with even the slightest chance of high winds......There is an issue of extended downtime here...so who knows how long it may be up in the jacks....
