I'll be flying for the first time Sunday morning from AR to NC and then to MA. I'm a bigger guy and am nervous about being able to buckle up. My company has looked into purchasing two seats but from what I'm seeing on the seating chart there arent two seats available except like preferential seats for people with frequent flyer status or something. I'm curious about US Airways seatbelt sizes and extender sizes as Im sure I'll need one. My first flight is on a Canadair Jet to NC and then an Airbus Industrie A321 to MA.

Any insight you may be able to provide would be great. I'd like my first flight to go without incident or to much emabarssment.

The easiest solution is to purchase one directly from a retailer. A great place is www.protravelgear.com. You'll need a type "C" for US Airways.
You can find it here.
Cheers,

I'm "in between", meaning depending on the aircraft I might not need an extender and on others I'm an inch or two short. If you are in doubt, you could kindly mention it to a FA as you board the plane. If you sit down and find you'll need one, just stop a FA on their many passes and ask them to get one "when they get a chance".

In my experience, I sometimes need an extender on a CRJ, it depends on the make and the express operator. With West mainline I need an extender, with East I usually do not.

Nice way to spam your site, but personal extenders are not legal for use on any airline that I know. Since they aren't subject to an FAA approved inspection and maintenance program, they are not permitted to be used.

I'll bet it's due to the imam incident on US back in 06!

Thanks for the replies guys, I finally got everything taken care of I think. I'll be flying US Airways and fixing to speak with customer service to ensure everything will go smoothly. I was looking at this http://www.livingxl.com/store/en_US/catalog/browse_sku.jsp?clear=true&catID=cat40188&prodId=X1115&id=cat40188 they say it's tested to FAA-tested specs, dont know if that means it's technically approved or not. I'm going to call US Airways though and check it out.

Thanks again.

No need to buy anything. Most F/As are pretty compassionate about seatbelt extenders. I usually hold it down beside me as I take it to the person. If two were required, I would get them too. Be warned, there is nothing we can usually do about unkind comments from neighboring flyers. If you can't put the armrests down it does become a "do you need two seats" issue. I wouldn't allow nonsense to go on in my earshot, but I am not everywhere at once. Hope this helps.

Thank you galley princess, all my flight details have been confirmed and it looks like they went ahead and were able to book two seats for me next to each other already so I should be set.

No, it's not approved for use. The fact that it doesn't work on Airbus aircraft would also make it a poor choice once you consider that the vast majority of the US Airways fleet is comprised of Airbus aircraft.

Galley princess is absolutely correct, I have never seen a flight attendant be rude about the need for an extender.

Again, another westie ignorant comment about things you know nothing about. Actually, they are. Manufactured by AmSafe (in PHX) and are shipped with a certificate of compliance, and are the EXACT ones that USAirways offers on all of their aircraft.
