Afa-cwa Mec Pres Calls It Quits

Teddy....best wishes. The one thing that I will miss is your passion that you have for the rights of the working force. One can only hope that someone will also step up to the plate with the same passion and determination that you had. And that will be some very big shoes to fill!!!! I would also like to THANK YOU for that "PitBull" determination!!!!

We're gonna STRIKE! We're gonna STRIKE! Then you USAIR "cowards" voted YES to more concessions! What a bunch of losers! Guess what? I'm a loser too here at AA! I've tried for years to get our scabby workforce to stand up and fight, but all the cowards here at AA keep voting YES! Some unions! People died and went to prison fighting for what people are voting yes away! What next cowards! You gonna work for seven days a week at minimum wage for no benefits?

The next person that mentions the IAM might get sent to the cornfield for the weekend. Stay on topic.

IAM Sucks!!

See you Monday!!!

Teddy, (edited by mod) You are an example to everyone in union office as to what a LEADER does and how a LEADER behaves.

I hope that you stay in touch through the boards and keep us all informed of your new life. US Airways and trade unionism are losing something special.

I met my wife on a flight that Teddy, I and my future wife were all working together. Whenever I see Teddy, she always asks me how my wife is doing, even though she hasn't worked here for about 8 years.
Teddy, you were the only union leader who would call me or e-mail me back when I had a question or a vent, if not the same day, always within 24 hours. My wife used to tell me to quit bothering you so much, but you told me to do no such thing. You were always there for us. You cared, and still do so much about the f/a's. You will be a great success in your new life. I wish you all the best. I have never seen so much integrity and passion in one person. Good luck Teddy and God Bless.

Mike

Having watched the situation at US unfold in the last few years, I can honestly say that Teddy Xidas is the gold standard of labor leaders on the property.

I don't always agree with her (fundamental disagreement about how/why/where unions fit best and what they do--it's not personal), but the fight and care for the membership and their well being is unmatched at US. It's a loss for the AFA group. Passion and drive like that are rare. Anecdotal story: at some point when I was still living in PIT (during the 1st BK, maybe), I read on either this forum or the old PB forums that the FAs would be doing "informational picketing" at the airport. Figuring that to be a load of BS, I roll to PIT the next day to fly out and sure enough: Teddy and crew handing out leaflets (and being quite effective at that). It strikes me that a union is only as effective as the members are dedicated AND as their message can be delivered to the public. T.X. brought both, so far as I can tell.

I think her departure also speaks volumes about the state of the airline, but that's another topic completely.

Good luck and Godspeed.

I hope my children grow up to have the same integrity as Teddy. She is a true hero. Be well Teddy and keep in touch.

I said and believe the same thing, U is finished when such people see no reason to remain on board.

Ditto> Good luck and Godspeed, to her and everyone who can see the light.

Among these loads of praise and adulation, there's something suspiciously interesting at pittsburghlive.com:

"Xidas, of Scott, will take voluntary furlough on Dec. 2. She will receive a $10,000 buyout settlement from US Airways and have the option to extend health coverage for 18 months. "

Now, this is the same person who helped insure in the last negotiation that all flight attendants currently on voluntary furlough get ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! FA's who worked/paid dues for 10-15 years and took temp. furlough (helping others keep their jobs, btw) got shafted by this team. Now, their leader is conveniently taking $10K, healthcare and VOLUNTARY FURLOUGH! How convenient! I wonder how that happened?

No need to complain about ALPA when you've got this typical, hypocritical pocket lining at the expense of those who don't have a voice. There's something rotten in otherwise silent Denmark.

Really? Teddy fought to make sure the current VFs get nothing? Was that #1 on her agenda? Got something to back up that accusation? Are you sure Teddy didn't fight to get the best deal possible under terrible circumstances, but management just wouldn't budge on certain issues?

This is the height of ungratefulness. I have never seen a union leader work harder or with more passion than I have seen Teddy work for U F/As. Y'all should be thankful she was willing to slug it out for you as long as she did. As bad as things are now for U F/As, it would be immeasurably worse if it weren't for Teddy's tireless efforts.

To suggest in any way that someone with such high ethical and personal standards, and who has proven her selflessness over and over again, is doing something underhanded or for personal gain after all she has done for you is reprehensible and you should be ashamed.

Teddy, no wonder you're leaving if this is how the people you have worked so hard for value your efforts.

I don't feel that Teddy's leaving as anything to do with the state of this company. Does it suck? You betcha. Teddy fought a good fight. She is tired. Her current position takes alot out of her. She answers that phone all hours of the day and night answering questions. I know..I call her alot myself. She ALWAYS gets back promptly. Just because she is leaving isn't an indication of the company. It could be...but I doubt it. Sometimes you reach a point and say "that's enough"

Remember Forest Gump? One day he just stopped running and said, "I want to go home". Why? He didn't know. I was just time.

Forest Gump and Teddy in the same sentence DELETED? Teddy is a little more intelligent, I think.....

Yes she is tired, she told me this a few years back and yet still plugging away.

There will always be ungrateful ice holes like we are seeing here coming out of the wood work, paid them no mind because they are irrelevant...
