AA/US continuation of good trend

AMR Union: Don't Fix Airline 'On the Backs of Labor'

Glading realizes that US Airways could one day seek to make a case to the committee for a merger. "If they come in, they will have to present a business plan that shows that American Airlines will be more successful with US Airways than as a stand-alone," she says. "It will depend on that." Glading noted that six years after a merger between US Airways and America West, the two pilot groups still work under separate contracts. "There is always some skepticism because [US Airways] hasn't successfully merged East and West, so how is it that they think they can make this one work?" she asks.

I'm sure AA/US are well into this merger........ Soon we should hear something.

No one group can really stop a merger from happening if it's what both parties (AA&US) want but management wants the scope language removed from the east flight attendant contract in the worse way. NOT HAPPENING! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! The group will be the thorn in the side to protect what little is left. Sorry but a merger isn't going to be funded on the backs of the very employees that keep the dirty wheels of BOTH COMPANIES running. I can only imagine what AA is going to go after with their employees while in BK. I feel sorry for ya.

WSJ is reporting Delta wants to purchase AMR....Not sure if that is possible...maybe they just want to pick out part of their routes and UA and US would get other pieces???

BTW, I remember that most merger-wolf rumors would result in US stockrising considerably. Although it's inching up it seems that Wall Street isn't buying into the crying merger-wolf crowd

What has changed perhaps is Tempe's perception that they'd walk in and carry off AA for a song or two.....not that they really believed that but it is highly possible they did...

Just thinking out loud however, the simplest merger or acquisition for AA would probably be TPG, because it leaves merger out of the equation and just gives AMR a new owner. TPG supposedly has deep pockets, and they do have some airline experience.

Were that to happen you might see AMR/TPG go after US rather than the other way around....sorry Dougie and Scooter.....

Just my two pennies worth......

I would imagine that DL is salavating to get the south american routes and would bid a significant amount for them as well as take some of the employees along aka 1990s style PanAm asset purchase style.

TPG works very closely with who ever has the most money. Maybe US will be spared having to merge with AA just because they are the only other non merged airline out there. It would probably work much better if US bought a hub (ORD & DFW has been rumored on the jumpseat). As with any airline BK the airline may be worth alot more if sold piece mill. Interested to see what WN's response to all this will be.

AA's reorganization plan includes growing from within , no merger. With 500 plus jets coming and a low cost structure, AA will be able to grow and become much bigger with lower costs. A merger will be a mess from all directions. Our take over of TWA proved that....... been there done that! Time to try something else.

Once AMR's exclusive period expires to file its POR, without a court extension, the company may not be able to prevent a merger or asset divestiture.

My mistake.
Interesting Article

Watching from outside the box...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Judging from your your other comments I am sure you must be happy with alternative plans of reorganization by TPG and Delta. I am sure you would agree that AMR must be split up in chunks. To have AA merge with US and save employee jobs and service would surely be a travesty, Don't you agree?
