AA to begin DFW-HKG and DFW-PVG in 2014; cancels JFK-HND

say it ain't so....

According to travel agencies, they cannot combine KE ticket with AA's all flights out of DFW and ORD, and 4 LAX flights (LAX-AUS, IAH, STL, and MIA)

The significance of this development is lost on me. I assume it's dire news for AA, but I'm not quick enough today to solve the puzzle.

I'm sure this is WT's idea of providing proof there's no demand for the DFW-ICN service, and that if you can't joint ticket on KE, it's doomed... never mind the fact that Korea is the size of Arkansas, and most of the demand is to Seoul...

What's the source of this so-called crisis?

There's certainly nothing technical which prevents KE and AA from doing a joint booking. Amadeus has a full content agreement with both KE and AA, so even if they had to issue separate tickets, a joint booking is certainly possible.

And before anyone starts hand-wringing over split tickets... it's a routine thing due to fare rules. I'm on an all AA booking this week --- even that's on split tickets, because if I combined the international and domestic, the fare rules dictate that the most restrictive rules apply, so, I'd wind up with a non-refundable ticket on the international, instead of a fully refundable/changeable ticket.

who said anything about crisis?

it apparently is something that USED to work but doesn't now.

You tell us what changed.

Prove there's a problem. What's your source?

More important, what's the relevance to AA's Asian expansion?

note that UA's Pacific yield dropped 8.4% in the most recent quarter, AA's dropped 6..8%, while DL's dropped 3.9%.

Not exactly a great environment for adding a whole lot of new service to Asia, esp. given that UA appears to be harder hit and have a greater presence outside of Japan which was previously thought to be the real problem in Asia.

Apparently, Japan looks fairly safe in comparison.
