The silence is deafening

The silence is deafening

So what does this mean?

If AA mechanics were the second highest paid in the industry at $18.00 an hour,, we should jump for joy?
This is just "hard" dollars posted here.

How about the loss of 1 week vacation?
How about no more double time?
How about no more double time and a half for holidays worked?
How about the loss of 5 sick days accrued a year of which the first 2 are paid at half pay for EACH occurrence?
How about half the allotted uniforms taken back?
How about 10 days IOD?

And before you remind me that AA still has a traditional pension plan, no need to. Continental has both the traditional defined benefit plan AND company matched 401k.

OUCHHHH, THAT HURTS!!

Compare Out-of-Pocket Medical Expense, Paid Time Off, and the fact that a large percentage of the work group will never make that top amount because they are classified as Shop Repair Person or a mechanic without weight and thrust experience limits. Pension should also be inlcuded in a fair comparison.

In other words, there is more to the package than top line mechanic pay.

I also notice no mention of FedEx or UPS mechanic scale.

Not to mention your posted payscale is nearly impossible to decipher and read.

Its not exactly an easy read.

AA mechs are not the second highest paid in the industry, not even close. There is more to compensation than the hourly wage. Our lost week of vacation and loss of holiday pay alone is the equivelent of a $2.40/hr paycut.

$30.95 $32.35 $31.33 $28.66 $25.71 $21.24 $26.87 $36.60 $29.32 $26.19

$32.35-2.40=29.95

That puts us below Alaska, Continental, and SWA.

Now if you factor in some of the other industry leading concessions such as the loss of 7 days of sick pay, loss of half pay for first two days called in sick at each occurance, figure thats good for about another three days of lost pay, now we are up to two weeks less pay, or another $1.15/hr that puts us at $28.80. That puts us below UAL.

Now factor in the loss of uniform allottm, ent and cleaning, add at least $60 per week in lost time and another $5 for laundry costs, thts $65 a week there , thats another $1.62 and hour.
That puts us at $27.18. Below Delta.

There's more but they are harder to quantify such as the loss of Doubletime for hours worked in excess of 12, straight time pay for mandatory company training done after or before shift-which should be at time and a half, our under funded pension which gives AA one of the cheapest pension plans in the industry and as my brother from Tulsa brought up-the fact that a large number of AA mechs will never make that top wage. My guess is that if you factor in all the OSMs that the average wage at AA would be about $4 less than the $27. 18 putting us at the very bottom. But not even counting these and other things that makes the TWU contract the most inferior contract in the industry AA is number 6 in pay.

It's missing the UAL skill premium, SWA raises for the past 3 years, among other things. Also it does not factor in longevity pay, but uses top pay--go figure. If someone is at top pay, they are most likely getting top longevity pay. So to sum it up, a 12 year+ AMT on afternoon shift at CAL makes around 50 cents more an hour than an AA AMT.

Just be happy you have a job, brother!!

If I remember correctly Tech Services was the only group to vote against the conceessions, but they still have double time in their contract. I wonder if this was a payoff to keep their mouths shut. A 777-200 captain recieved a $17 an hour raise from 5/1/03 to 5/1/04 and still has 2 pentions. I guess you get a raise like this if you have a real union negotiating for you and they didn't even need the almighty afl-cio to help. After all we had the twu and the afl-cio on our side and all we recieved was a 37 to 40 cent raise a year for 5 years. When will the mechanic and related at american realize that the twu is bought and payed for by AA. I guess we will see in the next 2 or 3 months how deep Dennis Burchette will reach into AA pockets. That comment was on video and will come back to bite him in the backside I'm sure.
