AA leaving PDX?!?!?

What I just heard, AA is out of there July 1st, or so the agent (PDX) just told me. Additionally, if Eagle were just handling the ramp on a contract basis, they wouldn't be LOOKING for a GM for PDX....

Agents should have received their 60 day WARN letters by now if that were the case.

As for posting a GM position, this is identical to a skycap contractor or overnight cabin cleaning vendor -- they still need someone in place to do hiring/firing & other admin activities. The AA manager can't fire an employee working for a contractor, but they can stipulate that a specific employee isn't permitted to work AA aircraft or handle AA customers if there's just cause.

The current AA/GM at PDX is Roy Gammon. The Eagle site, clearly states the are looking for a Eagle/GM to fill that position, along with Eagle/Agents. It seems highly unlikly AA plans on keeping the AA/GM there, and the AA/Agents. But we shall see. I see a major pull back, and layoffs by September 1, across the system.

Someone just told me Eagle was awarded the ramp handling contract at PDX, which is what they're hiring for, even though they won't have any Eagle flying at PDX. It's been 10 years since AA sold off AMR Services, so I guess Eagle sees some growth opportunity in that line of business... if they pick up ramp handling contracts elsewhere, it makes them look a little better as a spin-off....

Well if we can't keep it "in house"(AA),...............better to keep it "in the family'(AMR)

No one wants to see it come down to this, but truth be told,.........HDQ's is looking for AA retirees to work as independent contractors.(ex: agents who can teach the eaglets to ticket/board)

As for the ramp, in a case like this, I'd rather have A/E doing the ramp, than "ACME assoc.".

As you know well ..E....whether or not APA signs off on E/Cjets, A/E can work above/below the wing on any station not within the minimal annual dept. MAINLINE figures.
I've been saying for years, that to save money, and NOT sacrifice Mainline a/c, that many "b" stations could be turned over to A/E.
Look at BDL for example. They could still run DFWx4...SJUx1 and MIAx1 Mainline, plus A/E..ORDx4..STLx3
and RDUx3 and be within the contract.

As you also remember,..HDQ had no problem..Eagle-izing upstate NY(BUF/ROC/SYR/ALB) plus PVD(and they COULD HAVE run a mainline MIA and DFWx1 !

Hey, here's one I bet you didn't hear about.
"BOS" has ZERO widebody(Domestic) lift.

This could be the early 80's all over again.

Roy started out as a FSC in AMA, grew up in the Panhandle, has two grown kids, and his wife's name is T*******. They've been known to do a mean two-step at Christmas parties. He also sat in the cube next to me for a bunch of years at HDQ, and I don't think he'd lie to me about whether or not he's out of a job in the next few months.

There's not a lot of money to be made flying airplanes, but there will always be money to be made off those who want to try.

Eagle's chasing some of that money. It's as simple as that. Good for them.

I agree on the pull-back by Labor Day, but I wouldn't expect all the agent-only stations to wind up being outsourced to Eagle as a result of that. The cost savings from replacing agents-only with Eagle isn't all that much. PDX is pretty far flung to try and serve with Eagle, and anything they chose to put in there from ORD or DFW would count towards the ASM cap. That't not to say they couldn't try to serve it via LAX, SJC, or even SEA via Eagle, but I don't see that happening.

Well, I don't know about the Xmas two step, but all those agents at PDX are at top pay, and have been partime to save money. Now AA, wants them out the door and retired, on the street, quit, or whatever the case may be. Now as far as Eagle chasing that money, is that to help finance their divesture from AA? Hmmm, every little bit helps!

Now as far as Roy keeping his job. He could be like John Imlay, (two GM's removed from Roy). Mark Dupont, and HR showed up, as he was getting off a plane from DEN. Yeap, give us you keys, your Fired ! I just hate these short notices, like that..., bummer! Now as far as Roy being out of a job, AA either Fires you or recycles you- enough said. And..., I believe in the LAX,SJC, SEA feed into PDX as Eagle's future there.

Ain't that the truth. I don't know this Roy guy, but some of the retreads AA moves around the system really should have been fired. In particular, I'm tired of the mismanagement involving JFK flight service. Maybe BOS is closing because we seem to be getting a bunch of their waste products.

Interesting... What was he let go for?

As for "recycling," Imlay's now the Manager for NWA at PDX....

He is?...

I remember him being fired but I never bothered to find out why.... GM's get fired often enough for things like missing budgets, fudging numbers, or getting caught naked in a hot tub along with one of your CSM's.....

Losing a MAINLINE station is Never a good thing !

That said,...........If it happens, I'd rather see any ex mainline work stay(sort of) Inhouse, via A/E../AMR.
