Aa Ends Service To Cle

I read on JetNet today that American Airlines will no longer service Cleveland. Service will be provided by none other than American Eagle.
In the 1970s Cleveland was the home to the Lockheed Electra B Checks and employed around 100 A&P Mechanics.
In the early 1980s, Cleveland had 2 overnight 727s and 7 A&P Mechanics. By the mid 1990s, any overnight maintenance was OUTSOURCED to Continental and now, Cleveland is history. As is and soon will be MANY other line stations as AA shuffles flights and cities to American Eagle.
Since AE is TWU represented, everything is just ducky. But this is a typical example of how our work disappears, and the TWU says and does nothing about it.

CLE is a LARGE contract maintenance base. There are no union mechanics there, TWU or otherwise. There is a lot of work done there though, and there are a substantial number of AMR's aircraft parts stocked there also.

UAL pulled out of CLE around 1988 and Continental took over. Continental mechanics are IBT. I'm sure they do most everyone's maint. there. I think AA still owns the hangar in CLE and it will hold a bunch of parts.

I may have been unclear. There are certainly union mechanics in CLE, but they are not the ones working on Eagle's planes. Off the top of my head, I don't know the name of the company that does the work for Eagle, but I know for a fact that it isn't Continental. I had a couple of the CLE yahoos in one of my classes a few years ago,......they sure were......interesting.......

Cio, TWuer and nightwatch will give the excuse the CLE wasn't that important to AA's network.

The bottom line is that CLE is the first of the smaller line stations to be closed.

I actually agree with you on that point, just like management runs NWA and UAL.

So why do TWU supporters blame AMFA for management decisions? In the case of UAL they blame AMFA for decisions made before AMFA was even on the property!
