A pilot does...

Guess you need to come up to the Lake Norman area and see how many pilots have nice houses on the lake.

A good friend of mine sold his for over $600K and built a house in Orlando on a private ski lake and yes he is a A330 Captain.

Remember not just the pilots lost their pension, every rank and file employee did, (but remember the BOB gang gave up their pension without letting the pilots vote) at least the other groups fought the company and made the judge terminate it.

All employees took big hits, but the difference is the pilots make bigger money so they took bigger hits.

Don't care. Several times a day, he has over a 100 "souls" on board his bird that he is responsible for. I really don't want some rookie up front when things go wrong. I've been on too many "close calls" when flying to want anything less.

Sure it is hours of shear boredom with a few minutes of pure fear, but I want the experience when needed.

A pilot flies from CLT-LAX, once he is off the plane he is done.

A mechanic fixes the plane, his name is on that repair for life, who has the great responsibility?

And I can tell you that 99.9% of the time if the autopilot is on MEL the pilot will refuse the airplane, gee, why is that?

I want an experienced mechanic as well.

Now a turd hearse driver is another story. Could care less....

Walked right into that one didn't you....

I think you better care, as the ETOPS flights flights dont leave till he signs off the work and he can cause damage for improper servicing.

I saw a NW 727 come into Tampa as it lost is left engine due to blue ice, the engine seperated from the plane.

But thanks for the lame attempt at an insult.

I think that we are all very lucky to have these jobs to poopoo. Many people would love to have a position in the airlines as a pilot, mechanic, flight attendant, etc...We can complain all day long, but there is still a fascination with the aviation industry, IMO.

Remember, any pilot can transit "security" in the nude and still bring down an airplane, in the place they desire, should they choose. Don't forget and pass that thought around to your only friend.

Does anyone else find this disturbing?

Cry me a river, no one forces you to be a pilot.

And I guess you forgot the part of the six figure incomes you all make.

From your reply, you aren't making a six figure income. Show me that ALL PILOTS make six figures?

If you are not a pilot, why not? I am sure you had the same opportunities as any other person. We all live by our choices, what choice did you make?

If we didn't have pilots you wouldn't have a job.

You are never too old to be a pilot. Start your trainig now or shut up.

Any wonder why pilots are angry and not going to take it anymore???

Get off of the pity potty and cry me a river.
Your sanctimonious actions are here to bite you all in the a$$ and I (for one) don’t want to hear about it.

Now STFU and get back to work… :jerry:

Okay.

Perhaps he has flown three hours down from BOS and doesn't want to fly another 5+ to LAX, sans autopilot.

I flew over 900 hours in less than 9 months in Vietnam, without autopilot. I would not wish that on anyone. In fact, I probably killed innocent people doing that. A kinda GWBush moment, but he was a deserter.

You think the pilots name is not on a repair? Your ignorance of FAA regulations is pretty skimpy, but probably reflects the ignorance I see here.

I worked 6/12 to keep your bird in the air and your a$$ in the 'O' club. :p

When you see a pilot, he's not getting paid.
When you see a pilot going through the same security you go through, he's not being paid.

 Really? What happened to the Duty Rigs ...the Trip Hour, On-Duty, Min.Day and Reserve 72hr Guarantee?? When you are on Reserve you are being paid, when you Check-in for a trip you are being paid until the Trip is completed. At least that was the way it was 12 yrs. ago!

Last time I checked a pilot is a not an AMT nor authorized by the FAA to fix a plane or sign off a logbook. Nor did you go to A&P school and take the test nor do you have an Airframe and Powerplant license to fix the plane and signoff the book.

AMT is the person responsible for a repair, not a pilot.

Don't let the facts get in your way.

You know, after much consideration, I agree that most pilots don't get paid enough---considering the training, experience, responsibility, and the endless travel. However, I know of no one shackled in the cockpit. Recommendation, if you can't live with the pay, develop a marketable skill that will get you the pay you can live with and leave professional flying to those who don't mind the pay. However, in the meantime, please stop complaining to the masses who generally make much less doing crappy jobs they hate. Many of us would give our left one to do your job, but only for a decent wage, so we do something else and get our flying fix elsewhere.

Every hour flying is worth two on the ground
