The U.S. Department of Labor has approved $2.1 million in National Emergency funds for about 700 airline workers who have lost their jobs in St. Louis, said U.S. Sens. Kit Bond and Jim Talent.
The department will immediately release $760,199 in emergency assistance for workers laid off from American Airlines, Delta, United and U.S. Airways. In addition, more than $2 million will be made available for assistance in finding new jobs, including orientation, career counseling, job search and placement, job search workshops, training and retraining.
Workers who were liad off from Vanguard Airlines in Kansas City will receive up to $1.7 million in aid, the department said.
The award goes to the Missouri Division of Workforce Development as part of the Workforce Investment Act''s Title 1.
