Piedmont 1984/and of course any AA pilots, if reading this:
 
Any thoughts/compelling details on the AA voluntary coverage for disability? A fellow I recently flew with was wondering about it, and, to my discredit;  it frankly occurs to me that I know about a half ounce less than jack "cheese" about the offering, which is apparently time constrained...? All I could offer for an "opinion" was pretty much just the immediately above post's notions.

How much insurance does one need? I called the number and they didn't do a great job of selling it to me. Once you retire, the cost goes up quite a bit. It will then become your medicare supplement. $200-300 per month, but don't quote me. They said that if you die prior to retirement it becomes your families medical insurance, but was not well explained.

While never expecting anyone or any agency to simply be a ready slave; the apparent lack of quick and helpful customer service then fails to impress me. Hmmm...."Not well explained" has always been a Red Flag for me whenever contracting for services. Thanks for the input sir. My earlier "It doesn't seem all that expensive, so where's the harm?" must reasonably be set against the old adage of  "You get what you pay for"....

An admittedly childish poke, especially given my earlier reservations concerning squashing insects, (excuses to all fellow, actual pilots, but I just can't help myself here) How 'bout if it's arranged so "you'se" have 500'?...1,000'? "Well above you"/myself at the merge?...Or two thousand, whatever you think you need to ever even find "you'se" own pitiful arse with a map, GPS/Call Dispatch/Call Mommy and both hands, and thereafter, fully and freely exercise the fullest extent of your AWAsome "flying skills"? Might I even then expect a responsive PM, or should the whole world forever and futiley await your fantasized "terms" instead...? I'd think with "Hardly, very confident. Well above you..." "you'se" would be be properly embarrassed with even the option of energy enhancement, but it's cheerfully offered nonetheless...Umm...or would you perhaps feel far more comfortable just playing rock-paper-scissors in some lawyer's/arbitrator's office, an XBox/Playstation, or "better" yet; yet more internet keyboard nonsense...mighty "spartan", err..."pilot"?...If that's actually the sad "best" you can really manage...? 😉

Cool. I've got a new persona!  I'm Not "DM" or anyone else I've been accused of either. Who cares who I am. Just tell me where I'm wrong in my listed predictions. BTW, this isn't chest thumping. These are facts. The West is armed with a fairly arbitrated list you agreed to by the arbitrator YOU wanted. I'll be wrong after SLI and the two American and US Airways are organized in a way that in no way recognizes the Nic award. USAPA came, stole, and went without anything close to a combined DOH list. They've left a mountain of history and evidence hostile to those whom they had a DFR and to whom they confiscated money at gun point. You've spun a web of lies so thick Edward Scissorhands couldn't extricate himself from it...that's the story you hope to avoind in SLI and I'm here to tell-  you there is no way in Hell the West isn't going to walk the Arbitration Panel through every step your fake union made since it's Still-Birth. No Judge ever said the Nic wasn't fair and valid, No Judge ever said you were free to dictate the sli terms to the West. Quite the opposite actually. Anyway, the East is staring up a sheer clif of an argument...in front of the few people in this country that don't need a single word of background, evidence, or argument to fully understand what USAPA was/is, and what they've failed to accomplish.

You left out the west's often and earlier stated "rest of the world" fantasies brother, other than that; I can't find fault with your observations. Oh!...And we mustn't forget how day dreams of presumably "righteous"..umm..."karma" were going to intercede as well. It's all been a most interesting study of arrested development among a group of supposed "professionals"....Before encountering these fine folks?...I'd honestly never even dreamed such existed within the realm of "pilots".
 
Having said that; I'll again note that I've found many ex AWA, elder Captains to be perfectly functional and decent people, and I'd have no reservations about placing my loved ones aboard their aircraft...despite some of their first "officers".  My internet rantings are always and exclusively aimed at such pitiful punks as have, and currently post here from "sparta"....

Having said that; I'll again note that I've found many ex AWA, elder Captains to be perfectly functional and decent people, and I'd have no reservations about placing my loved ones aboard their aircraft...despite some of their first "officers".  My internet rantings are always and exclusively aimed at such pitiful punks as have, and currently post here from "sparta"....

 
P.S. Case in point: It can't escape notice that the erudite prose of "Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah" already received at least 4 "plus votes" from said "spartans". How such almost indescribably idiotic sorts were ever hired to actually operate aircraft will always remain a mystery to me, well, perhaps not-so-much in the civil sector, having experienced Business School/Lowest acceptable labor/etc in earlier life...Still...in even Aviation?...Seriously?....Sigh....Take a moment's trip back 30 years and who could have EVER even imagined?....Oh well...

I do realize that you claim to read nothing I post, but of course you're typically lying,..such naturally goes with all that "Integrity Matters" nonsense,  so do your "credibility" a favor for a change, and only respond as you see fit. For your personal comfort?...I'd suggest using the ignore option completely.
 
I mean you no harm child, quite the contrary. You would benefit from professional counseling. It's been nearly 8 years now of your "righteous crusade". At some point in the reasonably foreseeable future, your fantasies will very likely come crashing down, along with those of whatever "spartan(s)" you support. Such tends to be how life works. On Dec, 22, 2014, Courtney Luv is a 32-year employee. On the 31st of January 2015, pay close attention, that's just over a month, he's a 34-year employee. I guess he forgot what number he pulled out of his a$$ the month before.

It's really not that hard to follow.

Actually, that is the way it has always been stated at LUS. In December, he could have be a coming up on completing 33 years and in on January 31st he was saying he was IN his 34th year just over a month later. It has usually been stated by  agents, F/As and pilots alike that they are "IN their xxth year". They just round up. It was company culture. I don't believe that Luv is lying about his years with the company. Seniority DOH has always been important at LUS for bidding, seat position, reserve trip assignment bidding, AIL, aircraft, F/A "A" position,  non-rev, almost everything. The only concession to seniority was the JS reservation. 
 
When I upgraded in the '80s, upon completion of sim training, I was asked by the Chief Pilot's Office if I wanted IOE on a certain day the next week. I asked if there was someone junior to me who hadn't had IOE. They said yes and I said to give the IOE to the junior guy. (I was getting paid 85 hours a month anyhow just sitting home). They never questioned. DOH.

This is completely removed from any of the labor stuff. Have any of you done the numbers on the supplemental post retirement insurance the APA offers? Specifically the back payments to age 55 in some of our cases.
Also, am hearing about a survivors 25 k insurance benefit that costs nothing but the paperwork. On the APA web site.

Thanks for bringing up the subject. I was looking at it also. The back payment can be quite significant and then when you retire, you still have to pay $1200 a year and then it only kicks in after insurance and Medicare. It only pays 80%. Please correct me if I am wrong. I was trying to decide if I needed it also. The deadline is March 16th. I suppose I would have bought it if it had been offered when I was 55. I never bought that expensive ALPA LoL insurance and was glad that I hadn't, although I had a friend that used it for four years and is back on the line now.
