Zero tolerance PHL

The women on the ramp in Philly have gone to the shift managers, the duty managers, the ramp director, and the station director (yes, the new HP guy!) with reports of PHYSICAL and verbal attacks against them as well as sexual content of conversations, movies, videos on laptops and Ipods in the breakrooms and hallway areas. (Porn)
THEY ARE SCARED, HARRASSED, and INTIMIDATED!
NO ONE CARES!
USAirways fired 22 guys "pending an investigation" into an incident that occured off the property.
However, NOTHING is done when women bring these situations to management.....not even a posted memo on zero tolerence.

Where do they go from here?

(No where in this statement did I say that I am an employee)

How do you guys like that new guy he seems to toot his own horn a lot didn't do much in Boston just pulled everybody in for attendance anybody could have done that with the title

hahahaha......rotflmao!!!!!!!!!

My advice to employees subject to harrassment.

1. Document a complaint (registered mail, return receipt) to Human Resources. Tell them you want a response in ten business days.
2. Document a complaint to Canale, same as above.
3. After ten business days (I'm guessing you won't get a response), file a complaint with the EEOC.
4. In the meanwhile, Philly is crawling with attorneys. Do your research, and spend a few hundred to consult with one.

The union will not help you. They should, but they are going to hide behind "we don't resolve grievances among members, only against the company." Plus, they are invested in the status quo.

The company will not help you - they have an interest in sweeping it under the rug.

Document EVERYTHING!!!!

It makes for a winning lawsuit.

US Airways HR dept didn't take any employee harassment complaints lightly at all in the past and i can't believe they have changed.....call the number posted on bulletin boards throughout the company.you will get results.

go corporate.... ;)

A voice activated pocket recorder and a trip to the local media....

i wouldn't go there in the state of Pa.

wiretap laws here are some of the harshest in the nation...

A third-degree felony is punishable by not more than seven years in jail and a fine of up to $15,000 per charge

That Sucks...but if I were being harrased as the original post stated, I would have to roll the dice.

NOT TRUE! The Union (what's left) has been right there with the women trying to fix the problem!

The company will not help you - they have an interest in sweeping it under the rug.

That is why we now have a big mountain under the rug in the middle of the room.....pay no attention to it!

US in PHL doesn't have enough managers or is missing a "supervisor" level of management.
Lead agents are union brothers not supervisors and have no power to disipline.
Since the xmas melt down US has hired 400 ramp agents.
Almost all of them are 18-20 years old.
All of these new hires are on night work with 1 manager to 60 agents.

Would you allow 60 18-20 year olds in your house for 8 hours with little/no supervision?

That's what has happened in Philly's house!

This is a situation taking place ON THE PROPRERTY...ON COMPANY TIME...WITH AGENTS IN UNIFORM!
They acted very quickly when an incident took place at the Marriott but are VERY slow to react to what happens every day, right under their nose, on their watch!

For the first time in her career, that 20 year female employee was in tears yesterday. Afraid of the situation she had gotten herself into and having ZERO confidence in USAIRWAYS ability to provide her with a safe workplace!

But they are all over "on-time performance" <_<

Who trained these agents?

Where is the WonderBoy Station Director so highly praised on this board several months ago? "We got our West guy in. He will show you Easties how to run PHL. He has the full confidence of upper management."

Is WonderBoy still in charge there?

Who trained these agents?

After the xmas melt down and since the merger, US has hired ramp agents as fast as they can and dumped them on the ramp with minimum trainning. At the same time they encouraged the would be "mentors" to leave via paycuts and early outs.

Is Wonderboy still in charge there?

He is....but boy is he in over his head!
He needs to call Tempe and tell them he needs an emergency deployment of at least 10 managers from around the system to come be a constant presence on the ramp in PHL for at least 4 weeks until the situation is under control! Make the agents show up for flights. Make them run their bags. Make them be in uniform. Make them turn off the inapropriate videos and music with vulgar language that is playing in the hallways and breakrooms. Show them that there are certain expectations of them if they are to remain employed with US. Managemant has done NONE of these things for the past 2 years...If the young kids don't think they HAVE to do the right thing....they don't!
Since they get no respect from the "new hires"....The "old timers" in PHL are begging for a "Management invasion!"

Who would have thought!!

This was done before under a previous manager. The imported managers didn't like it one bit. No honor being chosen to leave a station running well to go fix some one else's mess.

If the company isn't offering a substantial reward to go to PHL to fix it why would anyone go? For an "attaboy?"

Why should a ramp crew from B-4 have to go park and offload your flight on B-6 when the assigned crew doesn't show up?
For an "attaboy?"
For extra $$$?
Should they just let the flight sit while they figure out the problem?
What if the choice of run a FFOCUS members bag or be fired was presented. Would you be ok if that person chose "fired" and let your bag sit? FOREVER?

Same job...different location...Everyone should do what they have to do to fix the problem immediately.

Crushed,

My experience is the opposite. I have seen a few harrassment cases, and the IAM took no position.

The explanation was the complaintant and the object of complaint were both union members, and the union would not take sides.

Placid Harbor danced all around it, too, and wouldn't give a straight answer.
