Is it possible that WN could decide to become a transatlantic carrier via its codeshare with ATA? There have been rumblings about LCCs entering the transatlantic market but WN, FL, and B6 know flying overseas is not their forte. ATA, on the other hand, has alot of international experience and flies the 757 which could be used to start transatlantic service from say.... PHL or BWI. Further, there are plenty of 767s available which could easily be acquired relatively inexpensively and put into ATA's system to stretch the transatlantic reach to include all of Europe.

food for thought....

I think it was RowunderDCA who theorized about this before WN even considered putting in a bid for ATA.

SkyLink Aviation is supposed to start BWI-Stansted this year and 'plans' to connect passengers on both ends between LCCs.

Good to hear that RowUnder has considered the possibility, which makes it even more certain that WN has.

NAPAUS,
If FL or B6 (or any other LCC) decided they wanted to begin transatlantic service from ATL or JFK, I am certain they could do some damage to DL.

I've never said DL is shielded from the realities of the market - and neither is any other carrier.

Sure you can pick up a 767-200 for pennies on the dollar, but try and think of the maintenance costs for these older aircraft combined with their relatively low fuel economies of scale.

Who says you'd have to pay pennies on the dollar? It wouldn't be too suprpising if Boeing were willing to sell some new 767-200's or -300's (ER versions, or course) at a fairly reasonable price to keep the line open until the government moves forward on a replacement for the KC-135 fleet.

From a previous thread from this summer...... something from the U boards, titles "puppies winning the dogfight"

WN's future international operation: ATA.

Here it is. I'm particularly proud of this bit of wildass guessing. It really reflects well on my foresight and intellect. (lol)
