Will AA's cancellations affect US?

2. NBC Nightly News for two nights in a row has been reporting "on the scene" at Washington National (DCA) about the fact that American is canceling all these flights which is messing up everybody and everything, but they are using the US Airways concourse as the background with all the USAirways tails painting the backdrop for American's dismal picture.

ABC did the same thing for several nights in a row.

What struck me is that usually, the reporter stands in the middle of the long concourse at the ticket counter level between the piers at DCA, with the high arched ceiling as the backdrop.

For the AA story, she was in front of the picture window looking down on Gates 26-40, with US tails prominently in view.

Oh, one AA aircraft did taxi by in the background during one of her stand-ups. The producer probably got fired for that.

Two things I find really odd about all this:

1. SWA screws up royally by being caught in bed with the FAA, so now the FAA begins to crack down in spades and American bears the brunt of it. Not that American shouldn't be doing the inspections; they definitely should. But it is as if by magic that Southwest left the "airline headlines" in about 24 hours and American ends up getting all the bad press.

Once again the Feds and the media show their incompetence. The FAA basically grounding AA over what is haggling over 1/4 of an inch of spacing when the directive stated 1 inch is ridiculous. The inconvenience subjected to the travelling public, the millions of dollars this will cost AA and a public black eye for the highly trained mechanics at AA . Something seriously went wrong here and I would bet my last dollar that it was ANOTHER Government F Up! (They are notorious for this crap). And as far as "Ding" Southwest.......why weren't they SHUT DOWN? There needs to be a Public Inquiry/ Commission over this. SW has been given a Free Pass over many issues over the years and I hope the Execs at AA summon their Ceo Emeritus Robert Crandall to get some pointers on how to deal with not only the Feds, but turning up the heat on SWA as well. WHERE is the Level Playing Field? Inregards to the media.......most reporters wouldn't know the difference between an MD80 and Disney's Dumbo The Flying Elephant. It's all about getting To The Story FIRST. Don't read too much into WHERE they file the report at Washington National......it's a public overlook that just happens to be adjacent to the US concourse. Knowing the media........surprised they didn't go into the Men's Room to find Senator Craig and get HIS Take on the situation  .....oh, I assume HE was BUSY!

Let's just say nonrevving these days really sucks when Airlines are filing CH7 BK and Airlines are grounding planes for silly MX issues...but that's allright...my pet peeve is flying with a sinus :(
