Since there isnt a general board and this does kinda pertain to US, I asked it here. Also there are 12 slots (6 flights) being awarded. Since I cant figure out how to get multiple answers in the poll, vote for who you think is assured to get a slot and the others will probably fall in line (or post a reply with your 6 picks) with your vote being your number 1 choice.

I put my money on Aloha. One stop service to HNL (just like AS's one stop service to ANC) is just too tastey for the DOT. :p

my bet is on AA, since the selected Pres of the US is good buds with the head of AA.... Norman Mineta will bow to pressure from Bush... Just my opinion...

I thought US was asking for DCA-SFO,DCA-SJU? Why wasn't US included in the poll? Oh, i see it's typical UAL posters, only believe UAL is important!

Hate to say it

AQ - 2 RTs
HP - 1 RT
AA - 2 RTs
UA - 1 RT

US-------ZERO as always

US has more gates and slots out of DCA than any other airline. Already.

If somebody is going to go to SFO, it should be UA--since it's UA's hub on the other end.

But what if US actually gets the slots? Could be very big for US/UA on the codeshare yield wise. The DOT is trying to make sure no one puts a chokehold on anyone's wallet for the fares.

I'm still griping that Airtran has slots at DCA, they fly in to all the DC airports now. If the DOT lets another carrier move into A, i'll be very displeased

Actually I dont see ANY "UA POSTERS" on the names posting here yet. I recognize most as US people so care to take another guess? Since you didnt see the UA-SFO in the poll, I take it you didnt vote either? Maybe want to look at it again? I started the poll and since I didnt see US-SJU as one of the choices in the newspaper article I read about the slots, I didnt include it, but feel free to start your own poll.
:D

Question: Is it 12 slots per day or 12 per week? I thought I had read that they were going to allow 1 long-distance flight per day--that there would be a transcon added to the DCA mix.

The article that was posted on another thread yesterday said that special consideration would be given to airlines not currently serving DCA. That would not favor AA, U or UA, would it? I'm not sure who all serves DCA today.

I think it's 12 per day. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it takes two slots to operate a flight out of DCA...one for arrival and one for departure. So 12 quickly becomes 6 when you translate slots to turns.

I actually think US has a decent shot at DCA-SJU service. There is apparently a lot of support for that routing from both ex-pats, the SJU government, and a lot of the travel industry.

While a lot of "entrant" carriers are out there, I think that there is a conflict in DOT's ideals: 1) allowing new entrants into the market conflicts with 2) permitting connectivity at the destination airport.

AQ might get 1 to SNA.
UA would get 2 to SFO.
AS would get 2 to LAX.
US might get 1 to SJU.

I don't think that Primarius would get anything as they've not proved that they can yet move a single passenger.

I think that there are also a number of "in perimeter" slots available. I think that US has an excellent chance of at least half of these since US has a proven track record of supporting and utilizing the additional slots given to it.

My guess:

F9 - 1 to DEN
AS - 1 to LAX
AQ - 1 to SNA
UA - 1 to SFO
UA - 1 to DEN
US - 1 to SJU

I will not be suprised if AA gets a couple of the slots because they have enourmous lobbying power. Here's my guess...

AA (LAX) - 2
HP (LAX) - 1
UA (SFO) - 1
AQ (SNA) - 1
F9 (DEN) - 1

I do hope that HP/AQ/AS/F9 can benefit from this, however. The others already have too much influence on the DC markets.

I hope they don't. The only carriers that I wouldn't mind getting slots would be AA, UA, and of course U.

That's all fine and good. I hope that you can afford the fares on those transcons with no competition (AA/UA/U would only compete against their own connecting flights to/from DCA.) DC is one of the least diverse cities b/c of the lock that these three have on it.
