Which airline will become dominant at PIT and PHL when this is all over? Or will the hallways at PIT just become empty? I canot imagine WN can just ramp up fully overnight!

I think NW will turn either PHL or PIT into a focus city. Maybe even a mini-hub in the case of PHL.

PIT: Air Tran focus city, more service by other carriers.
PHL: WN expansion, NW mini-hub, maybe B6 moves in too.

What about UA shifting some operations into PHL?

u know what guys . no one will get $#!t ,cause us will survive this. stop the whole wn crap . i am tired of reading about wn getting phl and all that jazz. usairways will survive this . just wait and see. its so funny how all you non us employees are so waiting for us to go under so that your companies can come in and grab like vultors. these are peoples jobs we are talking about . worry about your own gd airline. american isn't doing so hot the last time i heard. freaken learn how to land an md-80 . then we can talk .

US Airways is Uniteds fix ...... wait and see ...... AA and Delta aint gonna like it either .......

United cuts cost and gets LGA, BOS, DCA, PHL, FLL, CLT to go with ORD, LAX, SFO and DEN. US Airways moves most of its mainline equipment to Latin American routes. Everything else becomes Mid Atlantic or TED. United gets fixed, Star Alliance, RSA and government happy. Pressure shifts to AA and Delta to cut wages, goverment gets even happier.

AA191:

Kind of morbid to use the flight number of the American DC10 that crashed at ORD in 1979 as your handle isn't it?

 what the heck is a "vultor"? is that someting like a "klingon"?   etops1 i dont think anyone is wishing USAIR's demise though to look at both sides of the coin so to speak there is way to much over capacity in this industry and the airlines are unable to raise fares enough to make a meager profit. whats your answer? either let the floundering carriers who could'nt pour piss out of a boot continue to operate in bankruptcy and take the rest of the Industry with it or let them die. I mean how far are you willing to let your wages decline?

I hope you're right. As a retired U employee I obviously have a vested interest all around that it survives, even thrives, but I can't believe it. Wish I did have your faith because I would not have left as I have another decade to work, but I am convinced that U is finished. I worked there and it doesn't take an Einstein to see just how bad through out it has become.

U going out of business will not save the rest of the legacy carriers from the need to cut costs and further reduce capacity, imo.
