They will most likely be permanent for "89" days, then get their layoff notices. AA has done this in the past at DFW.

No bennies? Since when?

The part time scam is yet another TWU first. The company hires part timers-so they can save money, both with low wages for them and less OT for us, they get enough of them through the benifits they offer however the increased cost of providing health benifits to Part Timers gets passed on to all of us and because they get non-Rev bennies it makes it harder for us to get on. For full timers having part timers results in a loss of OT, downward wage pressure, increased medical costs and less ability to Non-Rev.

It's the best part time job you'll ever have. Full bene's including pt pension. c/s off all week and work the weekends. And if you hang around long enough A scale pay. You end up working with some accountants and stockbrokers who save $12 k a year in family healthcare. Just a heads up. The Boston transit system will be hiring a lot of mechanics next year due to retirements. Full pay at 2 years $35 an hour with 23 and out at any age retirement.

Are these replacements for those who took the VBR and SIS?
609 applications for 42 openings in an area with a population of what? 4 million? I wonder how many of those 42 will flunk the background checks and drug tests. And of those that make it, how many will walk out deciding that the job is too hard? Guess well just have to wait and see.

Look at the bright side Bob, at least there are no part time AMTs. Even at $8.64/hr at 4 hours a day some of your fellow AMTs (excluding you and a few others of course) claim ramp is way overpaid.

At $8.64/hr part time, the only value IS the benefits. Nobody in their right mind would do it for the money. Contrary to what some say AA has benefits that are better than most. I have compared my AA benefits to those who work elsewhere and my benefits are superior. Some people are self employed and are willing to work part time simply for the benefits; they do this not only at AA but at other companies such as UPS. What's more, since the low wage is irrelevant, these self employed part timers can get the 4 hour shift and CS off to the maximum amount.

The language is there. We tried to get it taken out in 2003 but the International said "We are not in a position to ask for ANYTHING". The company was taking 25% of our compensation away but they wouldnt even agree to a language change that had ZERO money value.

I"ve worked Ramp (not for AA but back in HS) and I know its hard work. I dont know why anyone would say that you guys are overpaid. Sometimes people attack the wrong people out of fustration, for many years management told mechanics that they were willing to pay them more but not Ramp. Of course it was a lie but many still believe it. The fact is they dont want to pay anybody but themselves.

$8.64 and hour when the minimum wage is $6.55. Thats pretty bad. They should be ashamed collecting dues from people only making $8.64 an hour. Jim Little sits up there collecting $200 k a year using the word "We" when referring to sacrifices that the members made. Its a disgrace.

I was told recently that all the new hires at JFK Title II are hired at top rate because they cant get anybody, a few years back the union quietly opened the contract and raised the pay for the boiler mechanics several dollars an hour so they could keep and replce the few that they have. Its a sad state of affairs for unionism when the market is the sole driving force for raises.
