Tell you what, how about this? The non-union employees will also take a 23 percent pay cut if you give up your seniority, furlough and recall benefits. Then we'll have a level playing field.

How are they economic issues? Almost everyone in the IAM and CWA are topped out, so giving up seniority would only give management the freedom to furlough people they dislike. Non union employees have furlough benefits, and recall benefits are a moot point.

Sounds like someone is worried about losing their job and wished they had the same seniority protections as the unions.

Furlough <> Layoff

And, I don't work for US. I work for another company and take care of my own career instead of letting union seniority rules dictate where and when I work. My main point is that if US years ago could have laid off at all levels, the overall salary expense would be manageable today. Take the company I used to work for: We actively laid off at all levels then only months later hired college new hires. We actively laid off folks and then 10 minutes later outsourced the work to India. It happens everywhere in corporate America, so why should airlines be immune from market forces?

He waits until the ALPA vote is over, then as that passes, he cuts 5% to make U bargain in good faith with the other unions.

That's called age discrimination

That sounds like one classy outfit
