I dont know how long its been since many of you were in high school, but when I was there (25 years ago) many of the students were already required to do volunteer work. If you were in Honor Society, Debs, Leo and many other civic student organizations, community service and volunteer work were a given if you wanted to stay in the organization.

Key point Tad.....you chose to become a member of those groups which required those activities if you wanted to belong.

Not everyone is into those activities....others choose different ideals....go different ways.
Some go into academia while others choose trade schooling....some will only become homemakers while some will flounder.Its all about difference and individualism.We aren't all the same unless you want to force it and go into Marxism.

Perhaps. This country is/has gone to hell in a hand basket. I cannot help but think that if people are required to help out in the community that they live in that people will have a vested interest in their community and a better understanding of the society of which they are a part of.

Society has to change and adapt in order to survive. This idea is one I like and one I can live with.

OK, as long as I get a choice in which indoctrination activity I perform. Otherwise I won't feel like I have a "vested interest in my community" and I'll feel more like a slave.

If I were Barack Obama and I ran on a platform of "Change" my first message would be that we all have to pull together as the government can't do it alone I would quote Kennedy early and often.

Define freedom...a license to drive a car or truck another to fly a aircraft, another to fish or hunt, a permit to build a home, another to erect a radio tower, a license to transmit on a radio, a license to pump a tank barge, a registration to drive your car including one for the trailer you may also own, a degree to get a decent job which will cost you a lifetime of payments, don't have a degree then you need a trade and in most decent paying jobs some sort of license to go with it which includes engineers to craftsman, a license to work on an aircraft, a car, a truck, a plumber license to fix your pipes, want to cut hair, need that license, want to clean teeth, another license on and on and on you get the point-- all granted by some form of government.

Is THIS what you call freedom, hmmm???

True freedom doesn't exists in this life and why anyone walking around smiling and truly happy realizes the hope that lies within is beyond this life. In this life we all are slaves to one thing or the other and the only freedom you have is that “sometimesâ€￾ you get to pick which "thing" will be your anchor for your entire life. Freedom is not punching a clock or worrying about pleasing some freak of a boss or whose behind is ripe for the kissing so you can move forward.

Everyone and I mean everyone living on this planet needs permission from someone else before they can move forward--- no one has true freedom, no one. You’re dreaming if you think otherwise.

What could Obama possibly do that puts anyone into further indenture ship? NOTHING!! Especially when you consider the government in both parties just gave away 30 generations worth of wealth to giant corporations. Freedom my a-z-z!
