US Airways lends a generous hand to families of fallen Arizona firefighters

We come across a lot of stories highlighting everything that airlines do wrong. Well it's time to share something that an airline is doing right!! Recently 19 firefighters were tragically killed in Arizona fighting a wildfire. This is a story of how US Airways is doing their part help the fallen heroes.

"A flight attendant who wishes to remain unnamed emailed Doug Parker (US Airways / soon to be American CEO) to ask if he could help provide space positive travel for the family of a fallen fire fighter who passed away in the AZ tragedy this week. He was dear to her and she decided to take a shot ...and ask for help. Not only did Parker respond "yes," the company is also extending space positive travel to the families of all 19 fallen fire fighters who passed away in AZ this week. In addition, US Airways has cut a check for $15,000 to each family to help with burial and incidentals."

The $15,000 figure matches, exactly, the death benefit from the 100 Club of Arizona:

As you all know, the nation suffered a horrific loss on Sunday, June 30, 2013 when 19 firefighters of the Prescott Fire Department's Granite Mountain Hotshot crew were lost while battling the Yarnell Hill Fire in Yarnell, AZ. The 100 Club, like you, is grief-stricken with the shock and devastation of this tragedy. These brave, young heroes will be forever in our hearts. The 100 Club has responded with the standard line of duty death assistance of $15,000 to each of the 19 families. We are continuing to assess the needs of each family, and will support them in the immediate and far futures.

Amazing that neither US Airways nor Doug Parker (if the donation was made by him, individually) has received any public mention of free airfare plus $15k per family.

The Arizona Cardinals, Motorola and Glen Beck are credited with donating thousands:

If Parker really was that generous, then good on him.
