You should read what you post, Not one word in there of Dems going Rep.

Where does it indicate a switch in party names?

Sadly, Gohmert is right about the history of the democrat party.

All these horrendous acts performed by your democrats was immediately after the civil war when they were skeered of the black vote, not in 1964.

Oh....many did.  YOu live in the south in the 60's and 70's?  I did.  Those speaking out against "forced bussing" were republicans.  Those speaking out against "fair housing" were republicans.  Claude Kirk was the governor of Florida...a democrat who switched parties and became a republican in 1960.   The south is full of republicans who used to be democrats.

OK KCFlyer you want to talk about fair housing..... fine.

“Just a few weeks ago, the Supreme Court ruled  that policies segregating minorities in poor neighborhoods, even unintentionally, are against the law,” Obama continued. “The Court recognized what many people know to be true from their own lives: that too often, where people live determines what opportunities they have in life.”

Let's talk about President Obama (a Democrat) pushing to put a further strain on the taxpayer by forcing them to fund more expensive housing for the welfare crowd.

Affirmative action combined with public housing, a Democrats paradise.

Apparently if you are not willing to put minorities in poor neighborhoods in middle class homes they did not earn at taxpayer expense that makes you a racist, yet using affirmative action (despite the claim that most welfare recipients are white) to dictate who qualifies is perfectly OK.

Let's start with implementing this new policy in Julian Castro's (another Democrat) and Obama's neighborhood.

Since they think it is such a good idea let them lead the way.  After all our leaders should lead by example. Don't you agree?

All racist swine no doubt.

During the 1970s, 60 Minutes reported that some members of Congress, government, and the press who supported busing most vociferously sent their own children to private schools, including Senator Edward Kennedy, George McGovern, Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, Phil Hart, Ben Bradlee, Senator Birch Bayh, Tom Wicker, Philip Geyelin and Donald Fraser. Many of the judges who ordered busing also sent their children to private schools.

Didn't say that.  Just said that the south has a pretty deep pride in their heritage....witness their feelings over the confederate flag....you know, the flag that was flown AGAINST the party of Lincoln...I find it kind of hard to believe that they saw the error of their ways and BECAME the party of Lincoln....only without that freeing of the slaves thing.

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was introduced  by a democratic president.  And there are nifty charts that show how republicans were the ones who voted overwhelmingly FOR that act.  But there's a neat little article from the Guardian...yeah...a lefty leaning British publication.  They broke the vote down by Union states and former confederate states - here's what the vote looked like:

See...there were NORTHERN Democrats and SOUTHERN Democrats.  And if we look at our friends in the Union, why the Democrats had a larger majority of pro votes than the Republicans.  And in the South...the land of NO republicans, they could barely muster ANY Democrat votes for it.   The 12 republicans they DID have didn't vote for it either.  Get their names...that's the beginning of todays Republican party. That was in 1964.  So one has to wonder....what could POSSIBLY have happened that would make them move from NO Republican senators and congressmen to a MAJORITY of republican senators and congressmen just a decade later?     Did they all see the error of their ways and decide to dump those racist Democrats in favor of the more enlightened Republicans?

Oh...there were code words...dating back to the civil war.  That war wasn't about slavery....it was about "states rights" (to own slaves).  Reagan invoked them in a campaign speech in Mississippi. Ask anyone who was in the south in the 50's and 60's what "states rights" referred to back then, and odds are it WON'T be related to economic issues.  It would relate to attempts at integration.  And using those words was appealing to a base.

I think I can sum up this post in 5 words...."Well, there goes the neighborhood".

Regardless, there weren't enough dem votes to pass CRA . Since those days GOP has been quite involved in bi-partisan legislation for jobs, work rights for minorities.

Wasn't it northern dems who also helped pass the Jim Crow laws and poll taxes?

Forced busing.......Most of the dem judges, senators and news people who supported FB sent their children to private schools...imagine that.

Forced busing was a stupid idea that one did not have to be a racist to not like.

Well...since the last near collapse of the economy was due to $700 billion in loans to poor inner city blacks who couldn't afford them (thanks Carter and Clinton), this just means they can run up another $700 billion faster....them suburbs ain't cheap.
