I have heard a bunch of rumors on airliners and I didnt know if anybody else has heard anything yet. Someguy from Tempe said that we are talking with brokers this week. The 332s have the same engines and are leased by ILFC which US west does their leasing with. I think it would be great if US can pull through and get these. Of course we would actually have to pay a decent amount for them

I'd guess about one million dollars a month each.

It certainly would be nice to pick up the 4 A330s from Austrian along with the 2 A340s this Star Alliance partner will be returning. The A330 is such a nice a/c for pax and crew and is one good looking airplane. Maybe they will consider reinstating CLT-CDG (Paris) and opening up PHX and/or LAS to LGW (London) and FRA (Frankfurt).

I would doubt that we are going to pick up any 340s and I personally dont think the 332s would be used from PHX or LAS or CLT..Just PHL

US desperately needs some 332s for the range. Why Wolf only ever ordered 333s is mind boggling to me.

No plane costs $1,000,000 per month, I remember the 737s were under $100k per month.

Wolf also ordered the A330-200.

Given that the -300 has more capacity for payload(i.e. revenue) and was well capable of handling the European routes US had in its sights for the following 8-10 years(if Wolf really thought out that far), it was a good choice. And, as said, Wolf did order -200's to come online later for longer routes.

I originally mentioned this in the Athens thread:

The A330-200's are smaller, but have longer range. They are P&W powered, as are USA A330-300's. Not too many P&W powered operators out there -- wonder who else might be interested (if anyone)...If there's low demand for the airplane and USA can get them at a low, low lease rate -- hmm. And, yes, AWE has a very good relationship with ILFC.

Only time will tell...

Here's a list of A330 operators that use P&W engines:

AAR Asiana Airlines
AUA Austrian Airlines
DLH Lufthansa
DRD Air Madrid
EEZ Eurofly
ETD Ethihad Airways
FWI Air Caraibes
GRL Air Greenland
IWD Iberworld
KAL Korean Airlines
LTU LTU
LXR Air Luxor
MAS Malaysia Airlines
NVR Novair
NWA Northwest
SWR Swiss
TAM TAM (Brazil)
TAP TAP Air Portugal
THA Turkish Airlines
USA US Airways

I really don't see any of those other operators in the market for 4 used A330s...

It sure would be nice of US to have 4 more A330 to use -- from whatever city to city that stands a chance of making a profit...just DO it!

Has anyone had a chance to look up the age of these 4 a/c? Just curious...

The only carriers I can see on that list that could be remotely interested would be Asiana and Eithad.

Etihad and other Middle East carriers are more likely to buy new planes rather than lease used.

A few months ago TAM would have been the most obvious but now with their 777 order that option has disappeared.

Unless a small asian LCC decides to go all out it looks like we are in a good position.

You can lease a 767-300ER today for a little over $400,000 per month. The going rate pre 9/11 for that aircraft new was close to $850,000 per month.

whats the range between the 330-200 and the 330-300? is it significant?

Here's some specs on both A-330 versions:

A-330-200:
Range: 6,750 NM

Pax: 253 with 3 class configuration, or 293 with 2 class configuration

Total orders: 337
Total deliveries 235
remaining delivery positions 102

A-330-300:

Range: 5,650 NM

Pax: 295 with 3 class configuration, 335 with 2 class configuration

Total orders: 253
Total deliveries: 198
remaining delivery positions: 55

Breath... from my review of the aircraft order/delivery chart on the Airbus website, it appears as though your list above in not complete. Additionally, in order to guage who might have an interest procuring the four available aircraft, we'd need to look at those companies which have placed orders for the A-330 family aircraft as well as carriers currently operating the family.

To see for yourself, please review the Airbus Order and Delivery spreadsheet, click here

DCA - You're right. My list is only those operators that currently have A330's with Pratt & Whitney engines. I purposely did not include operators that have GE or RR engined A330s as most of the time, operators do not want a mixed engine fleet; and I forgot to include operators that may have this A/C on order...and would want to know what engine mfg they plan to operate with, too...

Looks like USA east still has 10 A330-200's on the order books...Hmm. Wonder if USA will have to take them, still, if the A350 gets cancelled or USA decides thay don't want it (the 350 XWB). 'Cause if USA is committed to taking those 10 A330-200's, then these 4 look that much more attractive. And it kind of puts a damper on looking to the 787, doesn't it, in regards to a common fleet type???

Is US still talking with ILFC or did they pass up this one in a life time opportunity?
