US footballer arrested for sagging pants

Before the flight boarded a US Airways employee noticed Marman's pants "were below his buttocks but above the knees, and that much of his boxer shorts were exposed," Rodriguez said.

The employee says Marman was then asked to pull up his pants but he refused and boarded the Albuquerque-bound flight.

"One of the flight attendants on that aircraft was offended by the fact that she could see the outline of his private area," Rodriguez was quoted as saying.

He was then taken to San Mateo County Jail and charged with trespassing, battery and resisting arrest.

Then MaMa says:

Marman's mother, Donna Doyle, said her son was targeted because of his appearance as "a young black man with dreads and baggy pants" — but she insisted "he's a good kid trying to make it".

Kudos to the flight crew and SFPD!!
Who is not getting tired of looking at a$$ crack and underwear?

From the SF Chron:

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2011/06/16/BA5F1JV3LJ.DTL

When I get on a plane and see a 13-year-old girl with her whale tail" - exposed G-string underwear - "and fat old white guys with plumber's crack sitting down, and middle-aged ladies in halter tops and tons of cleavage - if you're not going to kick those people off the plane or ask them to cover up, then let's admit the hypocrisy."

Not mention people wearing flip flops sans socks.

I'm not that old but can still remember when people didn't dress like they were going to the beach or a their own backyard when getting on a plane.

I am glad that the crew took a stand. From the Chron story, it look like this young man did not co-operate with SF's finest. (And it's never a good idea to get into a hassle with the cops if you have an outstanding warrant.)

Be sure to check out the reader comments to the Chron article.

This report says he injured the cop when he was being arrested...

US Airways spokeswoman Valerie Wunder said the airline's dress code forbids indecent exposure or inappropriate attire.

Three cheers for the Crew and Valeri too.

New Mexico coach Mike Locksley said the school is aware of the arrest and plans to support Marman, who transferred to New Mexico after playing the last two seasons at City College of San Francisco.

"It is never positive when you have a student-athlete arrested, no matter what the circumstances are," he said.

Where are the Twitter photos!!?? Oh, sorry wrong story.

Updated SF Chron article, including a (somewhat incomplete) cell phone video from another pax:
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/crime/detail?entry_id=91290

The passenger who shot the video said that before he started filming, crew members and an officer had asked Marman to come to the ramp leading to the jet.

Listening to the young man's use of the English language made me feel a bit sad.

Can't wait to see how much this moron's move is going to cost the company.

From what I'm seeing on Flyertalk, for every one person who is annoyed, there are ten who are congratulating US.

It is really impossible to tell without pictures. If his pants were around his knees, then yes, it is a safety issue. If his pants were just "low hanging" then ...

I'd like to think FA's don't pick these battles for the hell of it (why would they? Not like their job isn't difficult enough). There has to be more to it (right or wrong).

The real issue is this guy refused to get off the plane when asked and had to be hauled off by the SFPD. This guy sounds like a jerk so matter how he was dressed.

i had read where he tried to board a UAL flight and they had kicked him off their flight as well.

Dress like a gang banger act like a gang banger or hoodlum imo that's what you are & I will treat you as such.

Note to self: Don't act like a hoodlum (or dress like one) while in the presence of Mr. Callahan.

Back on topic: I saw a news clip, and he definitely looked like he had a chip on his shoulder the size of a boulder. I wasn't there, so I cannot say what happened, but I could definitely see him copping an attitude and defying authority. I don't think that US would have called the authorities on him unless they felt like he posed some sort of a safety threat. I am taking US's side on this one.

I do not understand why some people think that the rules don't apply to them.

Well, actually he wasn't a gang banger or hoodlum nor was he acting like one. And believe it or not the captain was way out of line. A passenger shot video of the incident which I saw in an internet posting and believe me, the situation was poorly mishandled by the flight crew. So before you folks start automatically assuming the worst about a passenger who happens to be a young african-american man, do some investigating before you start impugning the character of someone you know nothing about.
