US Airways welcomes pilots' review of plan

Discussions include a proposal to add 60 new Airbus A320 planes to the mainline fleet if the airline can get productivity changes

PITTSBURGH (Post-Gazette) - The US Airways pilots union's governing committee challenged the struggling carrier yesterday to show the pilots a long-promised 2004 recovery plan. The Arlington, Va.-based carrier responded by saying it was ready to accommodate the pilots' wishes.

Pilots want details of US Airways' business plan

AIRLINES

US Airways pilots said Tuesday they want to meet with airline executives to learn details of the company's revised business plan.

Although it would not involve formal negotiations, the meeting would represent the first formal session between a union and the airline since CEO David Siegel said in November that further cost cuts are needed. Unions had already agreed to $1 billion in concessions while the airline was under bankruptcy protection.

Pilots demand to see US Airways plan

WASHINGTON (USA Today) - Leaders of US Airways' pilots union voted to resume meetings with the airline's management, which wants to cut costs to reduce loses. The Air Line Pilots Association wants to see the business plan and said it would reopen talks. "Doing nothing is not an option," said union spokesman Jack Stephan.

ALPA is going to defend the upper tier of their senority list....and then the rest of us will be saddled with the burden in this negotiation process.

Who here didn't really think that a 60 airplane carrot and their 20% equity stake would not bring ALPA to that table first?

Good one! Sad but true.....

Let's face it, the old geezers will do anything to milk another five years out of this company. They know most airlines won't hire pilots over 50, they have no where else to go and are desparate. They don't care about anything else. If you're a pilot under the age of 45, start flying somewhere else. These guys are taking the last bits of the company with them to right to the last day.

I agree. ALPA always throws its young to the sharks. Even when its young aren't really so young anymore, such as at U.

They truly are desperate, the pilots have NO options, and D&D know it. They've grown accustomed to that lifestyle and the alternatives are not pretty. That is why you see the constant propaganda from a certain pilot, urging others to sacrifice for him.

I'm sympathetic to the pilot group's predicament, inspite of the condescending prophet of doom manipulation show from one individual on here. They really do not have any realistic alternative than to give more.

The working class folks are already tapped out, so they are willing to shut it down, and D&D know this also.

Things just get curiouser and curiouser.

Who really cares anymore? The pilots can't save this airline. Neither can Siegel. Until he's gone, U is gone. Sooner rather than later.

Pilots Union Softens, Agrees to US Air Talks

ALPA's ruling council decided to engage in talks, which could lead to formal negotiations

NEW YORK (Dow Jones Newswires) - Faced with the prospect that US Airways Group Inc. may have to sell assets to fly through its financial problems, leaders of its powerful pilots union Tuesday agreed to talks to further reduce costs and boost productivity to fight off low-cost airlines expanding into its turf, Wednesday's Wall Street Journal reported.

With all due respect, I believe you do not understand the MEC's protocol, personalities, and the true reason for yesterday's resolution.
