The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette wrote the tranformation plan would "build a franchise that can grow westward. (Mike) Boyd wasn't sure exactly what that meant, saying a merger or more alliances are possibilities."

Who first made this type of comment on this website?

US Airways' plans are to "build a franchise that can grow westward. (Mike) Boyd wasn't sure exactly what that meant, saying a merger."

And to complete Boyd's statement:

"But whatever it is, it should mean good things for Pittsburgh International Airport, which would serve as a key launching point to the West. It means US Airways wants to "hang into Pittsburgh," Boyd said."

So much for the loss of the PIT hub - according to Boyd.

The Pittsburgh hub all comes down to debt reduction. The ball is in the ACAA's court, especially if United is running into trouble and violates the terms of its bankruptcy financing.

Well, Boyd said it, so that must make it so. The gospel according to USA320Pilot.

N628AU,

You have to look closely at what Boyd actually said - "saying a merger or more alliances are possibilities". Not probabilities, not certainties, just possibilities.

As I also pointed out, he said that PIT "would serve as a key launching point to the West". With PHL, IAD, CLT, & ORD it is hard to see how a combined UA/US would need another "key launching point to the west" at PIT.

I wonder what facts he has to conclude PIT will be our gateway to the west in the future? I did read that UAL and AA plan to reduce the number of flights in ORD because of air-traffic concerns. Maybe UAL will move some code-share flights to PIT.

well i think that's a stupid move. When will anyone realize that the network structure of US will not work anymore. All there hubs/focus cities are essentially located in the northeast. And they think PIT which is only 300 miles west of PHL and not much further from DCA will be a gateway point to the west??? The flts that will be dropped out of ORD will not be many high density routes, and if they are, expect 757's and 738's to be upgraded to 763's and 757's respectively

Sorry but if US should be worrying about anything it should be Southwest, which will most likely have a few dozen flts out of PHL by the end of the year. I am still interested what kind of news will be coming out in the next few weeks as to how US thinks they are going to combat with Southwest in PHL.
