Nice, one sided fluff piece.

We get it Art. Your pissed because he did not kiss your ass. Get a life. Doug Parker and his team did what hey were suppose to, make US Airways proffitable. The decissions they had to make may not have been liked by employees and customers of the old US Airways but they were decissions that had to be made.

Actually, Malikie, he did it on the backs of the employees and customers (leading the way with ancillary fees-such as the misguided attempt to charge for water and soda). Lowest paid workgroups in the industry too....when he has to provide a competitive product, and pay industry leading wages, we'll see how profitable the airline can be. He told me actually that in one year, the profit was equal to the amount brought in by ancillary fees, so absent those fees, the picture would not be so rosey.

I don't care about myself, I don't fly US. I care about my friends who work there, and for those working at AA, who are in for a rude awakening when promises made can't or won't be kept.

The broken record skips again. In the cases of the pilots and FA's, where most of the labor cost savings were incurred, those low wages were handed to Parker by work groups incapable and unwilling to integrate. The difference between the crap wages they've been making these years and what they could have had is the price tag of pride and stubbornness. The whole "on the backs of" spiel is so cliche by now, I really expect more from someone who runs an advocacy group for privileged people.

He told me actually that in one year, the profit was equal to the amount brought in by ancillary fees, so absent those fees, the picture would not be so rosey.

That wasn't really a secret since the quarterly reports made that much plain, and Doug was frank about that at the time on conference calls and the crew news sessions IIRC. $400 million or so in ancillary fees and a profit of about the same. So did US have a customer service obligation to not be profitable? An airline CEO has to take the thousands of variables that affect revenue and expense and work with them the best he can to make a profitable airline. Some of these variables can be controlled, others are the result of sheer happenstance. In the course of doing this Parker fostered a product that simply didn't pass your muster. You and your friends loudly proclaimed your exit. US went on to see record profits and load factors anyhow. Cue the violins.

I don't care about myself, I don't fly US. I care about my friends who work there, and for those working at AA, who are in for a rude awakening when promises made can't or won't be kept.

There seems to be a tendency on behalf of a lot of folks to presume naivete on the part of AA employees. I think most of them have been in the industry long enough to realize you have to take what any airline CEO says with a block of salt. If not, well, thank God we've got FF's enough to point these things out to us.

My BEST to us ALL.

Your "friends" are most likely customer service agents at the ticket counter and the gate. Both entry level postions both minimum wage jobs. Both positions I started off in at another airline. I looked at those positions as a starting point knowing full well that the pay was never going to be great. To get the better pay I worked and moved into higher paying positions. Your friends made a choice to stay in an entry level position for as many years and in some cases decades. That is their choise. So this excuse that the company made a proffit off the backs of the employees does not fly with me.

Tip: If you really want to move up in life malikie stop chasing carrots around here. Start your own business. After I got screwed out of my retirement I saw the light. While it pissed me off, it also taught me how to work around the thieves. You'll never get rich working for the corporation.

Another article, this one about Parker and the CLT airport. Note that Parker wore a tie. :)

I am currently satisfied with my job and income at United airlines. I make enough for a comfortable lifestyle and I am happy.

Congratulations to Mr Parker and his team for accomplishing what will be seen as one of the greatest corporate takeovers in history. AA thought they could waltz their way through bankruptcy court but the carpet was yanked out from under them by Mr Parker and his team. BRILLIANT MOVES (see history) . The court, wall st., and Joe Blow might call it a merger, but it is a TAKE OVER and once again Mr Parker and his team deserve the highest accolaides the business community can provide in recognition of the fact they (Mr Parker and team)will be in charge. They are TAKING OVER AA.
