Us Airways Ceo 'upbeat' On Progress

After a local radio station played the clip of Lakefield saying that....They interviewed experts from across the industry. They all agreed...." This company is in real trouble...!!! "

His "upbeat statement " is a far cry from a statement saying those agreements will be enough to push us out of BK. They all advised the public don't book on USAirways pass March 2005.

As one of the experts stated..." They have NO EXCUSES now"..!!

The key is that the creditor's, who have seen the company's finances and business plan, support the airline. The analyst's have not.

ATSB Talks

ARLINGTON (theHub.com) - US Airways is in discussion with the Air Transportation Stabilization Board (ATSB) to extend the company’s financing agreement, allowing it to use additional funds on a cash collateral basis to support continued daily operations.

USA Today, which today reported on the talks, said that the ATSB "is poised to extend an agreement with US Airways beyond Thursday’s scheduled expiration, allowing the airline to tap more of its dwindling cash to keep flying."

Mark Dayton, executive director of the ATSB, was quoted as saying, "We want to make sure we can get through the winter quarter," adding that the ATSB is also focused on keeping the loan secured by ensuring US Airways maintains a certain cash balance.

"We continue to have productive discussions with the ATSB and we have kept them informed of the progress that we have made. We expect to hear back from the board in the coming days," said Chris Chiames, senior vice president of Corporate Affairs. "Meanwhile, we will continue to focus on working with the IAM to secure ratification of three proposed labor agreements."

The bankruptcy court must approve any agreement between the airline and the ATSB.

Man, you naysayers better run for the hills if the company does make it, because I will ride your backs like you are a carnival pony about being wrong.

You have been wrong so far, estimating U's death months, weeks, or even days ago. Getting tired of being proven wrong yet...?

It is time for bed, but remember the next time you tell some one to stick it where the sun don't shine be careful not to hit some poor lost soul right between the eyes.

Q: What time is it if you are on a USAirways flight and the Captain comes over the PA system and introduces himself as Capt. Munn ?

A: Time to deplane, run...don't walk, to the ticket counter for the airline with ugly colored 737s, purchase a ticket, and fly on towards your destination.

You know, USAirways just might make it. If they do, however, all it means is that any airline that ever gets in to financial trouble as the result of bad management...all that they have to do is take two bankruptcies, break the backs of their labor, renege on their pension plan agreements, and get protection from creditors too numerous to count.

This should be a lesson to all: It doesn;t matter how bad your management is, if you can find a bankruptcy court judge amenable to porking the employees.

What your dealing with here is pretty straightforward.

Cost vs. Revenue….320 writes the ATSB is working with USAirways to extend the terms of their agreement. This does nothing to help the revenue side of the equation. Yes, USAirways cost are coming down but the revenue is the missing piece of the puzzle. USAirways will not release future booking information so, no one knows.

So, the question remains “ How do I increase my revenue while Delta just announced a fare war, Southwest is coming into every major hub and you have excess capacity in the market.â€￾..??

Believe me, I hope USAirways makes it…but people need to understand that if they cannot come up with ways of putting people in their seats (and keeping them there)…. one more melt down in operations and its over.

The next few months should be very very interesting.

While Lakefield has a responsibility and his comments are consistent with the CEO's of Eastern right before liquidation, the "Top" analyst that cover this industry and are relied upon for counsultation have painted Lakefield's painted reality as a pseudo one.
Boyd said, "Stick a fork in it."
Even the once optimistic analysts are now conceding that things are over. Interestingly, the only question that the experts have is if it will be February or March.

IMO, I gotta go with the experts as opposed to USA320pilot, who appears to be extreme or perhaps too subjective with his thinking cap. Don't get me wrong, I hope USA320Pilot is right but when the analyst point to the scoreboard it does more than predict outcome.

I would suggest that one get the Cubbies scoreboard guy to come over and change the score but he probably wants more than minimum wage and no benefits to do it.
