I don''t shop at Wal-Mart anymore, but it''s not because of shoddy service. Wal-Mart employees are quite helpful. The problem is the manufacturing quality of their products suck. I don''t like to buy broken stuff no matter how nice the cashier is.

Huh? This makes absolutely no sense. Let''s see...(thinking back to items purchased on last Wal-Mart trip)...how in the world are the Wilson brand socks, Northern brand TP, Mylanta brand antacid, and Frito-Lay brand snacks I recently purchased at Wal-Mart of different quality than if I had purchased those same items at any other retail store? Please enlighten me...

Let''s see...

TV antenna that provides a great display of snow

Backpack with zipper that caught the fabric and stuck permanently

Rotten meat

Waffle iron with a picture of a circular, non-Belgian waffle on the box that turns out to be a Belgian waffle maker

Walmart doesnt make any of these items under their brand do they? I believe it could have happened no matter what store you had purchased the items at unless they were specifically bought as Sams Choice or Equate items. Then the "quality" of Walmart items would be questioned otherwise its a bad luck scenario where you seem to pick out the few junk items in stock.

Tend to agree with JS here.

I''ve represented many companies that have entered into supply agreements with Walmart.

Walmart puts out standard supply requests to any number of vendors that enter into bitter fights to win the business. The price reductions that Walmart receives are quite substantial in some product lines. The suppliers are willing to price low as 1) the volume of the supply contract is huge and 2) the high volume increases efficiencies of scale for the supplier which do tend to reduce the supplier''s operating cost.

However, when they do bid extremely low, often they must trim certain features or quality control measures that would likely be in place for other stores or merchants.

Wal-Mart does purchase items with their "standard" of manufacturing (i.e., lower) but still using the brand name. They buy enough stuff for the manufacturers to have the necessary economies of scale to produce both the normal version and the Wal-Mart version.
