UA Pullout from JFK - AA Opportunities

Only if DL allows it

It doesn't seem like the DOT has been in favor of more concentration at airports so it will be interesting to see what happens - is an LLC wants access they might not be able to do a pure swap

AA could use the peak slots. Not sure how many good ones UA had. Either way, it looks like it is too late.

One thing that would be good is if BA and AA connected their terminals behind security - move JAL over to the BA terminal and provide more integrated operations at JFK

or move them to T8.

I don't think it's too late to complain about the slot transactions:

With its launch of p.s. services at Newark Liberty, United will cease operations at Kennedy International Airport on Oct. 25. United has entered into two separate transactions: Delta Air Lines plans to acquire United's JFK slots, and United plans to acquire slots from Delta in Newark. Each transaction is subject to regulatory approval.

Doubtful JAL leaves Terminal 1, they were part of the group of four (LH,AF,KE ) that brought that terminal into being. With UAL drawing down operations Aer Lingus could potentially move into 7 to colocate with BA and IB.

Terminal 7 is chaos in the afternoons, to say the least with all the occupants.BA,IB,QF,NH,PS,UA,AR and CX shoehorned in there.

UA had its own terminal in the 1990's, and sold it to AA. That became half the footprint for T8.

After they sold out to AA, UA moved into T7 with BA.

BA's lease on T7 is up in 2017, and it is the oldest terminal not yet renovated. I'd expect IAG to consolidate there, but there's an argument to be made that they may be better off just moving into the IAB instead of keeping their own facility.

Is there enough space for IAG in the IAB?  I was always under the impression that BA wants it's own space (terminal) at JFK.

Dunno, but I suspect the Port would make room for them just to be able to raze the building and put up something else that could be better utilized. It's not a very efficient terminal in terms of gates.

DL now controls most of the gates in what was the IAB and has an ownership stake in the company that runs it. DL still has airlines in T4 that operate on gates in the middle of DL's gates and had leases before DL tore down T3.

DL might have first right of refusal on any gates that are vacated as well as have a timeline for extending the other concourse at T4.

It is doubtful that there are any gates at T4 or that any can be created without DL's involvement.

the most logical step is for BA to gain control of all of T7 or AA to finish building out T8 as it was originally planned if AA wants closer facility cooperation between AA and BA.
