To all, If you all have not heard or been notified we had one of our brothers, Kevin Harris, who was involved in a very serious accident yesterday shortly after 5PM here in Tulsa. He was involved in a fall from an elevated height while working on a dock located outside Hanger 1B & 1C. He was transported to a local hospital by Lifeflight in critical condition.
TWU ERT’s and TWU Safety responded to the call. I can not praise the ERT’s that worked the accident enough.

Tulsa is currently trying to change work comp laws as we speak.
Tulsa may be trying to change the workmen's comp laws for Oaklahoma but our contract does not expire until 2018.
(h) During an employee's absence due to an occupational illness or injury compensable under the applicable Workmen's Compensation Law, he will receive from the Company the following benefits: Page 185 of 272
(1) For the first ten (10) work days absent, the difference between his regular pay (including shift differential) and Workmen’s Compensation payments;
(2) At the conclusion of the period referred to in (1) above, a disabled employee drawing Workmen's Compensation may, at his option, draw upon his accrued sick leave up to the extent of his accrual at the rate of up to one half regular pay (including shift differential). However, the sum of his Workmen's Compensation weekly payments plus his sick pay benefits will not exceed the employee's regular base weekly pay (including shift differential). Corresponding deductions will be made from his available sick leave accrual. Deductions will be to the nearest 0.1 of an hour up to a maximum of one-half day of sick leave.
(3) These benefits will be in lieu of any other payment provided for in this Article for all absences due to the same illness or injury.
(i) In the event that the Company challenges the payment of benefits under Article 34(h), occurring during the statutory waiting period under the applicable state Workmen's Compensation Laws, the employee will receive pay continuance for his regularly scheduled hours at his base hourly rate from the Company up to the maximum days provided in the waiting period. The challenged payment by the Company will be resolved in the following manner:
(1) The Company or the employee may, within seven (7) calendar days, appeal in writing through a review panel composed of a representative of the TWU International and the Vice President – Employee Relations, which will hear and resolve the case. The panel will be limited to determining whether the pay continuance, made to the employee under this provision, will be considered a benefit under Article 34(d) or 34(h), or whether the employee should return to the Company the benefit he received under this provision. In the event the panel is unable to resolve the issue, the case may be submitted to the System Board of Adjustment for final and binding resolution.
(2) If the Company or the employee fails to appeal the challenged payment, the pay continuance benefit will be considered payment under Article 34(d), and will be charged to the sick leave benefit.
(j) The employees and the Union recognize their obligations to prevent absence for reasons other than illness or injury, or other abuse of the sick leave privilege, and pledge their wholehearted cooperation to the Company to prevent abuse
Article 34 is just another reason why our contract should have never been ratified. So Mr. Cirri how is Tulsa gonna fix the CBA. I sincerely wish Mr. Harris a speedy recovery and my prayers are with him and his family.

1) if I'm reading correctly, Oklahoma law requires a minimum of 70% of the worker's wages under Workers Comp

I an ERT here in Tulsa and this individuals medical privacy is top priority. The law
In the past when someone is seriously injured on the the, the company and union waived the 10 day full pay and extended it. I know of one man here in DFW that was out about a year with a head injury who received full pay for the majority of his time off. I believe they do it when they can't claim employee negligence.

Working at AA for nearly 30 years and being on the Emergency Response Team in Tulsa, I will tell you that the training and dedication that is within this team is very impressive. It is the one thing that seems to always be going in the right direction. We all hope to never be injured or become ill at work, but if this does happen to you or me in Tulsa, the response time for an ERT to be on scene is extremenly quick, and if you would study the simple basics in the training, you will know that first responder time is key to saving lives.
Thankfully this the ERT program in Tulsa not a TWU Union function and AA Management is extremely supportive of the team efforts both financially and personally.
Regarding this accident.

First and foremost, I wish this man a speedy-and full- recovery...
I'm curious about the ERT program.
What sort of training do you all receive? How advanced is it?
Is it all the same, or is there specialization?
How many (roughly) are there at TUL?
Do other bases have a program like this?
How is an ERT notified to respond? Closest person to the incident, or does everyone get notified?
Not going anywhere w/this line of questions... I just work for a company that refuses to stock more than band-aids (yes, really) at most of it's facilities, and think this sounds like a great program.
