Tucker Carlson out at Fox News.

Critical thinking needs to be taught in schools again. This thread is lousy with reasons why.

E's right that the "real" story is often in the middle and often requires reading between the lines. We shouldn't have to do that, of course, but social media platforms & the 24 hr. news cycle have undercut the ways we used to get the news. Anger & fear keep you on a site (or watching) longer, and that means more ad $$$.

The stories used to be the product. Today, it's us.

Some of the last bastions of actual news left are police blotters, government notices in the paper, and micro journalism (HS sports coverage, etc.).

Fox News is giving Kayleigh McEnany a shot at Carlson’s slot. She was previously a waste management specialist on Fantasy Island.

Yes he is, he's also in discussions to get out of his contract with Fox.

Newsmax even with Tucker or a few family Trump’s will never get the eyes that Fox has.

People that tune in to channels like CNN and FOX do so as part of their nervous twitches.

He definitely has other plans. His viewers will follow him if he's on a channel. Instant ratings.
You underestimate Carlson and his followers,

They're doing the same thing they did when Kelly and O'Reilly left. Person does the news for week at a time. I expect Watters moving to 8PM....additional news after Breitbart.

He seemed pretty palsy with Musk. I bet they have something in the works.

I have no doubt he will get out of his contract in some form or fashion. It all comes down to the money involved. I'm sure Fox would like to stop the financial bleeding they started.

Non-compete agreements have gotten a lot of attention in the courts and apparently now in the administration. Taking his show and his voice away as an entertainer amounts to constructive termination, so there's ample grounds to try and void the agreement, but there's no need to rush into anything just yet as long as there's a lot of money on the table...

I do find it horribly ironic that Fox digging their heels in on this could be what results in getting bipartisan support for Biden's initiative announced by the FTC in January to outlaw non-competes at the Federal level.

And it's Game On.

Carlson seems willing to walk away from the $25M left on his contract and take his show to Twitter.

My guess (and it's only a guess) is that because Twitter is not a competing network, they fall outside the non-compete clause. And, he's served notice on Fox that they were the first to breach the contract, which effectively voided his non-compete.

Tucker's announcement:

Axios Writeup:

This is going to be fun to watch....

Oh I could care less about the program. I'm all about the legal fight on this one. You can't prevent someone from making a living as long as they're not trying to abuse insider knowledge or steal trade secrets.
