Your parents had a point.  The first presidential election I could vote in was in 1976.  My grandparents on both sides and both my parents were democrats, but I voted for Gerald Ford.  The BIG reason I did was most likely the reason many others didn't....his pardon of Nixon.  Because had he not pardoned Nixon, Congress would have spent months, if not years, investigating Watergate.  He forced their hand and forced them to get back to working on issues facing the country.  I do believe that may have been the last president ever who put country before party..   And if Hillary is elected, I would expect nothing short of years worth of continued investigations into Benghazi and e-mails.  A pardon would stop that.  
 
But it doesn't stop there....even if Hillary loses, Obama should issue a preemptive pardon.  Because the two front runners...Trump and Cruz have vowed to prosecute Hillary.  And here I thought the economy sucked...that America was threatened by ISIS...that America is threatened by North Korea....that immigrants are ruining this country.  But job one for both seems to be prosecuting Hillary.  So pardon her.  Force the republicans to actually DO something for a change.

So, give a lying sack-o-sh!t, like Hitlery a pass, while throwing a decorated veteran, Patraeus under the bus.....got it!

Watch the John Oliver clip I posted and tell me what Donald Trump is.   Where did I give HIllary a pass?  BTW...I've said it before - I live in Kansas so my vote doesn't matter - the republican will get all my states electoral votes.  If Bernie is nominated, I will go vote in order to make a statement.  If Hillary is the nominee, I will stay home on election day.  I'm not defending Hllary at all - just saying that if she wins - Congress will continue the endless investigations into Benghazi and emails and not focus on moving this country forward.  If Trump of Cruz is elected, they have said that their first order of business would be to prosecute Hillary....which doesn't move the country forward.  But I think republicans have forgotten how to try to move the country forward....for the last 8 years they have only mastered obstruction and scandal.   Hillary may be bad - but she's better than either of the GOP front runners.
