How appropriate, cinco de mayo begins the next war.

Cinco de Mayo (May 5th)?
By Eduardo Rojas Vega

Having inherited troubled finances, a bankrupt treasury and army after the War of the Reform, Mexican President Benito Juarez declared a two year moratorium on the payment of Mexico's foreign debt. The outcry in Europe was anguished. On Oct 31, 1861, the representatives of Queen Isabella II of Spain, Queen Victoria of Great Britain, and Emperor Napoleon III of France, signed the Convention of London by which the three nations agreed on a joint occupation of the port of Veracruz to collect their claims. The purpose was to occupy the customhouse and apply all customs receipts to the debt. The Convention text stated that their intention was not to impair the right of the Mexican nation to choose and freely constitute the form of its own government.

War of Occupation

England and Spain were sincere but France, a month after the Spanish and British withdrawal, brought 4,500 troops and began marching inland on its war of occupation. Their objective was to occupy Mexico City. Gen Latrille, commanding the French troops, was informed that the French would be welcomed with open arms in Puebla (conservative and proclerical just like today), and that the local clergy would shower them with magnolia blooms and would offer a special Te Deum in their honor.

President Juarez assigned the defense of Puebla to Gen. Ignacio Zaragoza. Encountering unexpected opposition on May 5, 1862, Latrille attacked recklessly and within 2 hours the French had expended half of their ammunition. The decisive action of the day was carried out by young Brigadier Gen. Porfirio Diaz who later that afternoon repelled a determined assault on Zaragoza's right flank. The invaders, witnesses of more glorious days in Crimea, retreated to lick their wounds in Orizaba. That's how May 5 —Cinco de Mayo— would be added to the national calendar of holidays!!

$200,000 a year. Not bad. No wonder you want everyone else to make concessions. If you give 25% you would be down to poverty wages of $ 175,000. What were you making before your first 2 givebacks? If I were a fellow employee my giveback would = 0  Savy

Lakefield, union chiefs to meet

PITTSBURGH (Post-Gazette) - New US Airways Chief Executive Officer Bruce Lakefield is expected to explain the airline's recovery plan to union leaders next Wednesday at the airline's Arlington, Va., headquarters. The company, which hopes to cut its costs drastically while expanding on the East Coast, also is scheduling other meetings next week to discuss specific cost-cutting proposals with each labor group. Thus far, only the pilots have agreed to new contract talks.

i BELEIVE, that was 320 Driver who said this on another thread regarding the airbus issure and maintance out of Alabama. I think people are getting these two posters mixed up. There is A320 Driver and A320Captain. In all fairness, it would be nice to keep these 2 individuals straight. :)

Just one more point...

I do not like this issue any more than anybody else. It s_cks, to put it in simple language.

However, the world is changing and I have no doubt that Bronner is dead serious with his comment that the restructuring will go forward "with or without employees."

We have all the tooling as a matter of fact US Airways shipped MAE our tooling. And we have the space that was proven and we have an arbitration award that says the company cannot close down a facility to circumvent the contract (the bus work was to be done in Tampa).

The IAM presented several ways to accomplish the work in the current hangars!
700, from previous tit for tats we have had, just want you to know i'm not starting an argument, but not sure i understand your post. they closed TPA, and NOTHING was done! 3am, right before turkey day, and that was the end of it! Whatever happened there? I do agree, we have a clear cut case as far as I can assertain from our current language, and "history". I just have a funny feeling these bastar#@$ have something up their sleeve!! GOOD DAY!

Whoa! Looks like YOU have a lot of room to GIVE. You have enough for the IAM, CWA, and AFA. I'll be looking for a lion's share of contribution from your end to bring you in line with the LCCs :D Bet the co. can't wait to get their hands on your "golden eggs" as well. Especially you saying that that is enough for you, and I agree....keep on giving till you feel some pain, cause you're not there yet.

PS: You really need to take the time to read the 10K report. I'm not reading your "doom and gloom".
PITbul!!!!!! tsk....tsk!!!!! YOU bit on that one????? C'mon, the class envy bullsh....t...... why even bother??? On second thought, never mind

PitBull,

I think we may have discovered one of the handful of people who knew that the stock that vested last year was in the E-Trade account and accessible before everyone else. Those few were able to unload in the mid-teens or so.

Jim
mid teens??? I believe it was $30-32 for a brief period
