Fortunately, I was always taught not to live past my means.
So.. I do not own a bass boat nor a $40,000.00 gas guzzling truck.
Do you think these thousands RIF'd (or soon to be RIF'd) will ever see $40 much less their jobs back ?
I think they will on both counts, if they live long enough.
Obviously those RIF'd out of MCI will be hurt the most because once gone those Jobs are not likely to come back. Age is more of a factor with those guys. But anyone under 40, since there is a 10 year recall, will likely be recalled because people are always leaving. We are into the Vietnam era guys reaching retirement now and due to industry turmoil they are all over the seniority list from top to bottom. I even think that the whole industry will be facing a shortage within three to four years. Whether or not we are able to exploit that shortage remains to be seen. I suspect that the TWU will cut out throats once again and make is easy for the company to deal with the shortage by accepting language to do to the line stations what they did to overhaul.
