Maybe, maybe not. Have got a trip to PVG booked for a couple weeks from now (three attorneys have already left for PVG). All booked on UA because all of us are US FFs and we''ve decided to stay on the UA/US combo. Had the hook-up not taken place, we would likely have taken Northwest. So, because of the code-share, UA reaped about $22,000 in the form of four C class tickets.

You can check to see how many codeshare people we have on a flight by looking up a list using CS as the search requirement at the end. You can also check out how many US people are using UA by checking the US* flight number from your city. It will list how many people are flying on the UA flight with a US ticket. I''ve seen some interesting routings recently with the codeshare and definitely some cities that we would never have seen the customers if not for the codeshare. Also from the number of people who still check in at the wrong counter, I''d say UA is doing pretty well also. Only thing thats difficult to say is how many people would have been US to begin with (especially on nonstops) and how many booked UA* because the price was cheaper than US fares and how many would have booked another carrier altogether.

OTOH, many codeshare flights on US metal are significantly less expensive buying the tickets through UA. My experience has been that fares less than 7 days out have been 50% less by buying through United. Leisure fares for the identical flights are consistently 25% lower, also.

I would rather pay my money directly to US, but the cost difference for the IDENTICAL product is significant.
