I was hoping for a little advice and some good news! I was just hired and will start FA training soon in PHX. I have been so excited and looking forward to starting. Unfortunately I have been reading too many blogs and forums and starting to get discouraged. No one seems happy. What am I getting myself in to? I'm a happy, positive person and a former teacher. I'm excited to be working with adults and being on a team but after reading so much on the internet I'm starting to think everyone is frustrated with their job. Why do they stay?

Can anyone tell me they love being a FA? What is it that makes you stay in the business? Is it possible to stay clear of the politics?

Also, any advice during training?

Thank you and I really do look forward to working with you all very soon!

Not a f/a, but congrats on being hired & welcome to the board.

Stay just like you are now, go with a positive attitude & learn all you can. There is no perfect job, it will be what you make it. Best wishes.

Welcome to the family!

We are family in that we fight, bicker and rant, but in the end we (most of us) stick together and have each others back!

It will be a challenge working in Phoenix as your starting salary will be quite low. But you have the opportunity to work extra hours on days off to help that paycheck a bit.

I've worked both Sides (east and west) so working rules per the contract are different. We try not to take sides (east v west) when it comes to being a FA, but int he instance of work conditions and regs there's no choice!

I've been a FA for 10 years and it is a lifestyle not just a job. You will either love it or hate it, very little wiggle room, but if you love it you pretty much stuck in it because theres no other job like it! B)

Best of luck to you!

Oh Gosh!!!! Good luck to you.
Wish you would have gone to jetblue or Virgin America .
But you made your choice all the best to you.

You're where you're supposed to be. The madness around here won't last forever. Take in what this opportunity has to offer you and make the most of it! Things will get better!

While the job isn't what it used to be, it'll always be what you make of it. Congrats on getting hired.

Jim

Just a piece of advice from a customer. If you sit long enough you think of reasons to dislike any job. US Airways is no different from any other company. They have their good point and there not so good points. The simple truth is that any job and your satisfaction in it comes from inside of you and you'll know soon enough whether US Airways and being a flight attendant is for you or not.

Since you get out what you put in, Work at being a good F/A and let the rest of the BS be.

Thank you everyone for your replies. It makes me feel so much better to hear what you've said. I can relate to "it is what you make of it". Teachers are some of the biggest complainers but I always chose not to be a part of that. Thank you again and I'm so excited to working with you all very soon! :D

Ive been on the East for 25 years. I have seen the good, the bad and the ugly. Right now is pretty ugly. I love my job and hate who I work for. You just make the most of it and make it work for you. It can only get better and hopefully we will have a new contract in the next few years which will make it more enjoyable. The East and West Flight Attendants dont have a problem. The Pilots will never be one big happy family and this makes it difficult. Southwest or continental would have made you happier.

I don't work for US (or any airline), so I hope my opinion counts for something: I find the majority of the FA's on US to be really great people --very friendly, and committed to doing a great job. I hope that you draw on that positive energy. You will probably make some lifelong friends. When you work so closely with people and travel with them, after a while they become your family in a sense.

In some ways you are lucky to be joining the fold now -- you know what you're getting into as far as the airline environment goes. Many longtime US FA's started their careers when being a "stewardess" truly was glamorous, and they have lived through the downturn. Good luck in your career at US, if you decide to go for it.

Your opinion VERY MUCH counts +1.

Only because we've met for BBQ, and you took me on the employee bus in CLT. ;) I can't say what it's like to work at US, but if I didn't already have another job, and money weren't an object......maybe I'd apply!

They couldn't afford you. When it comes to pay US is "Canary Air" cheap cheap cheap LOL.

As for something good. I had a great Walleye Fillet I grilled and lightly blackened, some Hot Dish as a side, Life in da great white Nort is gude, you betcha!!! Pretty soon it will be time to get the fishouse ready for da winta!!! Almost Old Fashioned time here.
