Does anyone have any details on stowaway (?) on TPA-CLT-PIT that occurred today? Incident is being reported on the news with no details?

Our local news says he stowed away in the tail section from TPA to CLT. Then used a buddy pass? to non-rev to PIT. That doesn't sound quite right but the news being what it is.....

Oh, and it was one of our mechanics. Just lovely.

Traveling non-rev during the summertime is next to impossible anymore, especially out of Florida. Just mention to the flight deck there is a live animal in the bin and to keep the heat on.

So Gestures Jester.

That's what being said on the ramp, access door to APU was found open and a blanket and pillow were found inside. Is there enough room up there? A catering crew claims they saw a mechanic jump from the APU compartment and he was in company uniform, if that's what happened, I wonder how he accessed the jetbridge to get inside the terminal to xfer to another aircraft....CLT really didn't need to be involved in this deal....

Reminds me of stories of back in the day when the cargo bin of an FH-227 sometimes became a non rev seating area. Or the lav of 727. Not to mention the jumpseat. Or the lap of a jumpseater. Oh my, things have changed.

I'd say he's done this before and knew the access code to the jetway.

Surely, you are not saying that the fourth estate got it wrong!

Now it's kind of starting to make sense... I was supposed to fly TPA-CLT this am and the flight was delayed... didn't think much of it as it was only 30 minutes late..
as I was walking down the jetway the capt getting off says we were late because of a "nest" in the wheel well... He says we had it cleaned out..

I'm thinking ... a bird's nest??? then he says it was a mechanic.... I continue on and am still confused...

I tell the Capt I'm flying with about it and said, I'm not really sure what he was talking about...

until now

also noted the write up in the FDML
