Southwest jet makes emergency landing
Bird sucked into jet engine

December 29, 2005 - A Southwest Airlines jet was forced to make an emergency landing at O'Hare Airport after colliding with a bird during takeoff from Midway.

Flight 111 was on its way to Philadelphia when a bird was apparently sucked into one of the 737's engines, causing it to shut down. Southwest officials say they decided to send the plane to O'Hare because it was a full flight and needed a longer runway.
The plane landed without incident. No one was hurt. A second Southwest Airlines jet was sent to O'Hare to take the stranded passengers on to Philadelphia.

I recall an incident about 20 years ago out of HOU -
A bird struck the front of one of our aircraft on climb out and actually penetrated the fuselage into the cockpit.
Bird feathers and guts everywhere. After returning to the airport after the bird strike, the Captain and F/O changed into ramp agent uniforms and flew the remainder of their trip.

Yep, Two WN jets parked at the UAL B terminal at ORD. One broken and one to rescue the stranded pax (too bad they don't share tickets with the other carriers). PORTION DELETED

I've seen Pictures of that floating around. I believe it was geese. Pucker Factor!!!!!

I certainly hope UAL was kind enough to provide WN a discount for using it gates <_<

Did they bring the cameras over from MDW for the big event?

Your a PUTZ !! Are you pissed at Southwest for turning you down for a Job???

WNJETFIXER,

Get used to it, you'll get plenty of field trips to DENVER for bird strike inspections (since you'll be operating on the Central Fly Way) they fly over the airport by the 1000's. Not to mention all the lightning strike inspections you'll do here ALL year around. Plus the wild front range wind shears! You guys will love the field trips to come for inspecting those damaged birds. Unless your pilots hide that on a napkin in the log book (shame on them ) ! You might think that you'll make money on cheap fares, but you'll be SPENDING LOTS of extra money for extra maintenance to operate here in Denver count on it.

One good thing though, WE got some BIGGGGGGGGGG runways for you to land on here LOL  And the closet gas station is about a mile down Pina BLVD if you feel the need for some ethol :D .

You Fish are a real "class-LESS act"

If MX costs get to expensive, you can BET our management will be pro-active enough to set up our own facilities right there in your own back yard. Sucks you'll be on the outside looking in. But with an attitude like yours, its no wonder why.

Hope you and yours have a Happy New Year..

Absolutely NOT! Never applied nor would I ever apply to fly 737's for the rest of my career. I like the long haul and international flying. You can only have so many ABQ layovers in your life.

I just like seeing the shine rubbed off the SW apple. People need to see that they are not the cheapest or the best option in many cases. The SW marketing dept. has done a great job of covering up the inadequacies of the carrier. The recent events are starting to show the true SW colors.

You still have not said who you work for!!

Then we put MX in Denver. If you know anything about SWA, you should know that nothing is done without a plan. Damn guy, your posts are getting pretty lame.

The SW marketing dept. has done a great job of covering up the inadequacies of the carrier.
And which inadequacies would that be? And please come up with something else other than the MDW or BUR incidents. That sh*t is getting really old.

BOY, you guys have put me a "Difficult Dillema"

I've probably been a WN Detractor(on this board) as long as anyone.

Yes, Bird strikes, landing next to Gas stations, or public Intersections are factual.

But who among us(our carriers)hav'nt had a "string of bad publicity", over the years ??

I feel that anyone suggesting that WN cuts corners on Maintainance, or would'nt address future problems PROMPTLY, is "fooling themselves" !!!!!

NH/BB's

You still have not said who you work for!!

Magasu uses an "old paint" UAL 767 as his avatar, that's a pretty good hint. Not that it would do any good to point out ANY other airlines "inadequacies". We all have them, and it all depends on one's perspective as to which is "THE EVIL TO END ALL TIME!!!!" or whatever is being blathered. :D

WN you could make a list if you tried, we're not perfect. We are VERY good at what we do best, which is exactly what Mags just acknowledged, "The SW marketing dept. has done a great job".

We market that you can expect low fares at SWA. We all know some carrier can be lower, depending on restrictions and time before departure, but if you're going tomorrow, it's SWA.

We do a pretty good job of being ontime and friendly, being honest about delays and mechanicals, and treating people as if we'd like them to fly us again.

I was thinking, this morning, that it must be a pretty slow week for news, and airlines are enjoying being the flavor of the time, since we're hearing about every gate return, bomb threat, and ramp crease out there.

IMHO.

Everyone have a wonderful New Year and remember to get a designated driver tonight, if you're going to be more than a walk down the hall from your bed.

What the UA airplane in my avatar is too much of a disguise for you? :p :p

No wonder you guys like to go bump in the night. Does the obvious always elude you are you just making and exception for me?

I wonder if the crew of the MDW flight was making light of the FAA demo before t/o and if that might come into play with those that are suing. Sorta, well they did not take the threat seriously so why should I? Then kaboom you are sliding through a blast fence and all of a sudden you have to think about that standup routine from an hour and a half ago. Could be a way to claim mental harm on behalf of the pax.

Ding, You are free to use the emergency exit nearest your seat.

So then why don't you go back to the United Forum?? Oh, that's right, nobody's on there, they're all laid off.
How was that year in the red buddy? Jump Ship guy, your about to hit an iceberg!!
