What a F-ing joke. Any occupation that can be learned in a six week training course does not qualify as "highly skilled".

It takes a lot longer than 6 weeks to get the airframe and powerplant licenses.

Actually 6 weeks is a bit long for an A&P...go to Houston, take ya about $750, study/memorize the tests..and Poooofffp...you is one....HAHAHA!!!..this will take about 3-5 days...depending on you!

But remember...we are professionals!

That is a study prep course Drippy, but you knew that. You either need the schooling or be signed off based on years of experience in order to take the prep course and the test. Since you should have enough experience, why not take the test drippy?

I am waiting to avoid an increase in CS...I live comfortably and do all the work I desire...an A&P isn't important to me as I will not relocate/bid nor would I go to work at a 3rd party vendor for 1/2 pay.

BTW...I had started A&P school in '79, was laid off and did not return. When I was 25 it was important, not now. Most A&P's are now furloughed without a job to return to, I see no benefit, and my ex would receive more of an increase than I. Besides..it's always fun to show an A&P the correct way to work on A/C, an A&P ticket does not make you a mechanic.

Oneflyer what is your profession?

You must be at least 18 years old and able to read, write, and understand English.

You must get 18 months of practical experience with either power plants or airframes, or 30 months of practical experience working on both at the same time. As an alternative to this experience requirement, you can graduate from an FAA-Approved Aviation Maintenance Technician School.

You must pass a written examination, an oral test, and a practical test for both power plants and airframes within any 24-month period.

I know its been a long time but I thought it was an oral, written and practical for general, airframe and powerplant, 9 tests in all.

Actually my son is in school this year. The Tech school conducts the practicals as the proceed thru the courses.

<_< It’s a shame that people resort to demeaning someone else’s livelihood. I don’t care what anyone does to earn an honest living. Some professions admittedly will pay more due to many factors such as education level, skill level, demand, etc. We need to get over this my job is more difficult, better or more important than yours. It’s childish. In society we all have jobs and roles to play. If you need to justify or prop up your profession you better take a long look in the mirror. I believe it’s more important what is inside that person than what they do. Trust me, I’ve been with highly educated people in a well paying job that I would never want to associate with ever again. It basically comes down to family, friends and health. Try to take care of those things first because a “better job†won’t matter much if you have no family, friends or your health is bad. 😉

I see no need to fuel your desire.
