It takes a lot longer than 6 weeks to get the airframe and powerplant licenses.

Drippy Quill said:Actually 6 weeks is a bit long for an A&P...go to Houston, take ya about $750, study/memorize the tests..and Poooofffp...you is one....HAHAHA!!!..this will take about 3-5 days...depending on you!
But remember...we are professionals!

Drippy Quill said:I am waiting to avoid an increase in CS...I live comfortably and do all the work I desire...an A&P isn't important to me as I will not relocate/bid nor would I go to work at a 3rd party vendor for 1/2 pay.
BTW...I had started A&P school in '79, was laid off and did not return. When I was 25 it was important, not now. Most A&P's are now furloughed without a job to return to, I see no benefit, and my ex would receive more of an increase than I. Besides..it's always fun to show an A&P the correct way to work on A/C, an A&P ticket does not make you a mechanic.

I know its been a long time but I thought it was an oral, written and practical for general, airframe and powerplant, 9 tests in all.Buck said:Oneflyer what is your profession?
You must be at least 18 years old and able to read, write, and understand English.
You must get 18 months of practical experience with either power plants or airframes, or 30 months of practical experience working on both at the same time. As an alternative to this experience requirement, you can graduate from an FAA-Approved Aviation Maintenance Technician School.
You must pass a written examination, an oral test, and a practical test for both power plants and airframes within any 24-month period.
