Stops Enroute

I cant see it either but you never know... anything is possible. I have heard fons were busy due to many bags scattered thruout system. Anyone hear how bad the bag situation is or when headwinds are expected to decrease. Ive also seen on other threads other airlines heading west are also having problems.

I was on 81 from PHL-LAx last night. We stopped in MSP for gas. Our total ground time was less than an hour, and we were only on the gate for about 25 minutes. It took almost 3 to get to MSP and then almost 4 from MSP. On the leg from MSP the boss said there were 200 kt headwinds. Luckily the ride was smooth the entire way, even over the Rockies.

The crew was fantastic and the rest of us pax were well behaved. Everybody seemed to understand the situation. We were told twice in the gate area before boarding, and then the pilot appologized again several times. They showed the short subjects on the leg to MSP and then the movie from MSP. BOB was done to MSP along with beverage and coffee. Another beverage was done out of MSP.

Hi,

Ran 616 knots at times, or over 700 MPH ground speed last night from Phoenix to Charlotte. Winds right on the tail.

A few fuel stops in PHX also.

Operated PHL - PHX in a full 321 the other night, but had enough to get there, slow going though.

To all of our pilots and f/a's, THANK YOU! Im sure your job was even tougher this week and you all did a great job!

Usually when people talk about an airliner's range, they talk in terms of nautical mileage. But in reality, the real performance figures from the plane's manufacturer are based on endurance (time) at a given power output/fuel flow.

So, what *IS* the time/endurance of a 757 and A321 at normal cruise, fully loaded, with required reserves? I suspect not more than about 6 to 6 1/2 hrs.

Example: PHL-LAX is 2088 nautical miles. At a somewhat normal groundspeed, Westbound, of 400 kts, that can be achieved in just under 5 1/2 hrs. Add 100 kts to the headwind, as has been the case recently, that's just 300 kts/hr, or just a hair under SEVEN hours. This is why I believe the endurance is in the 6-6 1/2 hr range.

Do the ETOPS 757's have extra tanks to make the longer trips and allow for unusual headwinds? How have the winds been going West to HNL? What's their range (in time), and does it differ from the non-ETOPS?
