I've given an opinion that I feel others have agreed with. ITRADE seems to be the one doing the arguing, and in an extremely defensive manner.

Itrade-

 Enjoy your wine. Maybe you should put that peanuthead back as your avatar.

An in any event, "He is trying to start an argument or something. It's not called for and R U D E," is a complete non sequitor given the fact that this is a =message board= where differences in opinion and argument are always made.

This is not the pulpit where you either accept the mantra or leave the congregation.
Sorry, 330, I'm not going to bend over, kiss the sceptre, and buy into the mantra that you and others seems so very, very willing to do.

Light Years is a big boy/girl, and s/he is capable, we assume, of defending his/her points, but has yet to do so.

United charges for food in coach.
United charges for booze in transatlantic coach.

United has some lousy commuter affiliates (i.e., Atlantic Coast).

So, what the **** is your point?
OK, I'll bite...

First of all UA does not charge for food. At least not on the vast majority of it's flights, and certainly not internationally. I believe UA may be testing it in just a few markets, and I'm not even sure if that's started yet.

IFE is available on all UA flights. Now what you consider IFE may vary. On flights long enough there is always a movie unless it's a 737. All flights have audio entertainment, an award winning and industry best inflight magazine, channel 9 (a feature not available on ANY other airline), Airphones on all flights, as well as personal video players in First Class on 767, 777, and 747 (ie: big airplanes), and UA will soon be one of the first airlines to have inflight online access.

As for commuter affiliates, the only one I know of that has a poor service track record is Atlantic Coast, which may not even be a factor in the future. UA has been know to terminate it's affiliation with airlines that don't uphold a certain standard.

flyertalk.com is not a good representation of what US's customers think of your product. I've found most of those folks to be among the "I want a filet mignon for dinner on my one hour flight but only want to pay $99.95 for the entire roundtrip" crowd.

United DOES have IFE on all flights except 737's

but we do have some lousy commuter affiliates :p

And, that is the **** point!!!

Folks,

The bottom line is that both US and UA are fine airlines, which for the most part do an excellent job. Both have made some economies of late which either make no sense or just go too far from a passenger perspective. Both companies, along with MOST airlines today, have a serious revenue problem, which is mostly do to insane fare structures.

Enough of the US vs. US or us vs. them nonsense. Both are good at what they do--you all know how I feel about US' people. The employees of UA I have met have been very good as well. Let's get back to the topic shall we?

I think US will make a fine addition to the Star Alliance, and it will hold its own just fine with the other member airlines.

Regarding Flyertalk--I disagree at the characterization made of most of their members. That bunch represents a small minority in my opinion. The majority just want some value to their well spent dollars.

I wasnt going to post on this topic again and I wont after this. I would have responded sooner but had to go out and have a life for a bit- it happens to the best of us.

Anyone reading my post can see the "point", but I'll break it down again. I first asked if anyone knew of Star Alliance's policies and then listed some of our services I feel may be an issue. I looked again and it seems pretty self-explanatory.

I feel we offer a lousy product. Thats my opinion. I hear this from our customers who I still deal with every day. I hear it from other employees, great employees who just want the tools to succeed, who are embarassed with our current state. I see it for myself when I'm on our aircraft, and I dont even see the "ground" side of our product.

We are the only major airline that uses the same service items (plastic), and offers the same food (and sometimes less) to our first class passengers as is offered in coach (for a price). We have disabled our audio IFE, and only offer video IFE on a very small handful of flights. Any one can see that our cabins are filthy. Am I being contested on these facts?

Certainly message boards are open to debating but not arguing. I am a big boy/girl and therefore dont put up with rudeness. My mother doesnt swear at me, why should a stranger on a message board? Because I pointed out some of the shortcomings of our inflight service product?

Anyhow, now that we've established the point of our post here for some of our dimmer bulbs, what does anyone else think about the original topic. Does anyone know what the policies are? Will the transatlantc classes be an issue? Will there be changes because of the audit before we become a member?

Good one 767. F/A Paaaaaaaat here.

I have been cracking up on the 330's recently discussing how much I would love to be on one of those auditing flights. I will promise you very soon you will see these penny pitching service cuts dissappear. I think most of us at U know this management team is out to save every dime and did what they did to save a buck. Our polocies and procedures won't fly with STAR and we will kindly be told to change the way we do business or find another partner. STAR means too much to U and those changes, I feel ,will come. Anyway, I can see Dave bragging about how they have decided to improve our level of service to make it the best in the industry. Guess what, Dave? It WAS the best and you ######it up.

Fly,

Thanks for clearing up what you guys provide on your flights. I have alot of friends who work for UAL so I knew these things. It amazes me that neither your CEO or ours has addressed the issue that our services are NOT consistant when we codeshare 50% of our flights. Our looser CEO has cut us to bare bones. Believe it or not we use to have a pretty darn good airline. I know many of you dislike STAR, but in our case it can only help. It's an embarrassment to go to work over here. We have turned into HEE-HAW AIR, starring Lou Lou, the fat lady. Can you hear her singing yet?

1) UA is starting purchased food testing on Oct. 31. There is not a single U.S. airline that started food testing that did NOT introduce it and propagate it as a mainstay of domestic coach food service.

2) IFE is available on many US flights. So too is the magazine. US has video in J class for its big birds as well. The only knock here is that US, nor any other U.S. based carrier, does not have Channel 9 which is quite addictive.

3) UA and ACA are still code-sharing, so its in the mix for the foreseeable future. As to terminating other relationships, I would argue that any termination with ACA is based on financial considerations, not based upon any service shortfalls. Aviation Daily said so. Additionally, while some have griped about Mesa, it should be noted that United has begun - once again - code sharing with Mesa after a rather messy divorce several years ago.

Who cares what kind of transatlantic service US has, and how it compares to other *A airlines... once all US transatlantic flying has been replaced by *A airlines and US becomes the east coast feeder for *A it is destined to be, you won't have to worry about whether your transatlantic service is up to par....

One Star Alliance policy that should be interesting to implement is that Star Gold FFs (that'll be the US1's and US2's) are allowed access to the lounges when travelling internationally. That brand new club in PHL A-West isn't going to seem quite as nice when it's overrun with people and you can't turn around.
