Wherever.
Corporate Headquarters is monitored day and night by a group of security guards, but Halloween was no ordinary night for Norm Robertson. At 5:22 p.m. on Halloween night, Norm noticed something more "trick" than "treat."

During a routine walk around the building, he saw a fire in the loadingdock. Assessing the situation, Norm pulled two flaming boxes off a palate of paper and debris, immediately lessening the possibility of a more dangerous fire.

According to a surveillance video, an unknown man attempted to set three fires in the loading dock then break into the back hallway of CHQ, which was locked. Two fires resulted and Norm and EVP and CIO Joe Beery each grabbed a fire extinguisher while they waited for the Fire Department to arrive. They used two full fire extinguishers but were not able to quell the flames.

John Schwartzkopf, manager of corporate security said, Norm's timing could not have been better. This could have been a serious event with tremendous damage, but thanks to Norm, we had no structural damage. John also noted that because of the new security cameras, US Airways was able to provide police with several pictures of the man.

Norm said, "I wasn't sure how serious it was until I saw the palates. So I pushed the boxes on fire to the ground and tried to put them out. Then I turned around and the dumpster was on fire! We're lucky it wasn't as bad as it could have been."

Makes me wonder.. was it a disgruntled employee or a disgruntled CP? (chairman's preferred..hehe) ROFL.

This is really odd because I was literally walking out of headquarters at that exact time to catch a flight to Vegas and I didn't see or hear a thing!

Another unsuccessful implementation for Joe Beery. :p

It reminds me of the lyrics to that song....The roof The roof The roof is on FIRE....We don't need no water let the mother F#@%#R burn... Jeeeesh, They'd need to make the three cities fall over each other for a headquarter next.

Does anyone feel like US Airways just tossed in the hockey puck for that SOC center?

Let us know when they catch the guy. Who it is and why he did it might be the real story here.

My question is, what is a palate? Only definition I can find is that it's the roof of one's mouth? Doesn't make any sense. I don't think this even happened, just some jackass posting.

I goto CHQ maybe 3 times a year. I've always wondered about the loading dock area. It's too easy to get to and you never see anyone monitoring it. When you enter the property from Rio Salado Dr., it's the first right.

I'm not surprised that this happened, just surprised it took this long. I think it opened in 1998.
