MIAMI - Shots were fired Wednesday on board an American Airlines jet that had landed at Miami International Airport, and at least one person was wounded, according to broadcast reports.

The plane had just arrived from Colombia and was headed to Orlando, the reports said.

The suspect, a passenger, claimed he had a bomb and started to get off the plane, and air marshals went after him, sources told NBC News.

The man then turned around, started after the air marshals and shots were fired.

Local affiliate WTVJ showed police SWAT teams surrounding the plane. The concourse at the airport was closed after the shooting.

Miami-Dade fire rescue officials confirmed the shooting.

1. Person was "off his meds", was bi-polar.
2. Person was reportedly talking about a "bomb" in his bag.
3. Person did not follow instructions of law enforcement officer.
4. Person was reaching into said bag.
5. Person was deemed a threat and dealt with accordingly.

Prayers for everyone involved, but this sounds strangely familiar.

IMHO, the marshalls did their job.

The situation is sad, but I agree with you SWFlyer. I am glad the marshalls were there, and their presence has been made known.

Can you say lawsuit, boys and girls?

Against who? AA? Don't see that one going anywhere. AA didn't shoot him. Evil as AA is, the marshal killed the perp.

Against the DHS? Against the marshal? Don't see any likelihood of success there either.

Old friend,
"I can't fly with you on this one"

If it turns out to be a harmless threat, than It's a tragedy because a life was lost.

But given everything that AA and UA has suffered thru(9/11),
The risk is too HIGH.

A lot of US here, have praised EL-AL to the hilt, over their security.

Well this is EXACTLY whats the Israeli's(SP?) would have done !!!!!!!!!!!

NH/BB's

All is mentioned is the word "lawsuit."

You all know as well as I do that the family probably has already retained legal counsel.

Do I see any merit in any lawsuit?

UNEQUIVOCALLY, NO WAY!

But in a world of frivolous lawsuits against corporations who made the coffee too hot, and, in this case, the United Syates Government, there most likely will be litigation.

Even if it takes the family no where.

Maybe, but then again ask yourself if EL AL would have even let this guy near an airplane given their profiling procedures.

Just a thought.

i have to wonder why he hadnt taken his medication and if true, how long has he been off of it would be the two questions that would come to my mind

Crazy nut says he has a bomb. Crazy nut gets shot dead. Idiot got what he deserved. I get so tired of hearing "He was bipolar","He didn't take his medicine",or "They didn't have to shoot him",etc. Good job by the Air Marshalls!
