With Independence Air the latest to announce in-seat TV will AA have to consider starting up this perk to stay competitive with the LLC's?

While AA touts PC plug-in jacks, the 96% of the passengers without PCs or those who choose not to use them are stuck with A.) ho hum  B..) an unwanted chatty neighbor  C.) A book or mag they bought but found they have no interest in :( or D.) trying to get a nap in while sitting next to 2 rug rats. <_< Oh yea there is also the teenager with his CD player so loud you can hear the blare/rap form his headsets.
Personally, I think A.) variety of stations no ho hum B.) flip on the TV problem solved C.) No extra book to haul around and not have time to finish when I arr D.) the rugrats can settle down with Berney, excuse me Barney or cartoons and that will probaly take care of the teener also.
TV or No TV... "I want my TV" No -M- in there please.
I like the choice for live sports or news or whatever might be your favorite

The great unanswered question is how well WN would do head to head against B6. We haven't really seen that yet.

AA's gunna have to bite the bullet and install TV on some of the fleet. I'd say the 757 and 737's to start.

From AA.com:

If you are traveling on a Boeing 777, you will enjoy a personal video monitor with 10-channel programming. In First Class on the B777, you can also enjoy a Personal Video player with up to 20 additional movie selections.

Entertainment on American Airlines!

Get on Ebay and buy your own DVD player with a 7" screen for $200.

Costco is another good place to go.

No loss of satellite signal, blank screens due to deferred MX and movies that start when you want, not when a FA wants.

OKAY!!!
There are those who choose not to spend $200 on a DVD.
Let me see here. On Jet Blue, I can save on my ticket. I can save on the cost of a DVD, $200. I can save on a cost of a movie $18.95. I can get a choice of entertainment. I don't have to have an extra carry on....
Sounds like a no brainer to me. Especially for cost aware passengers and there are more of those than bus travelors. Sorry but I just don't buy your reasoning

If it is a no Brainer just fly JetBlue , Watch your TV, Eat your Blue Chips (pretty good BTW) and continue emptying your brains watching informercials All Night...
God forbid you should read a book. But hey, you are saving money. that is what matter !!!!!!!!!!!

NTM,
Therein lies the problem, people are doing exactly that! Including me! Last night I went on Southwest's and Jetblue's websites to buy tickets for my family. (checked AA too). Why pay $100-$300 more on AA that is totally non-refundable? No entertainment, no food. We have nothing going for us there. BTW I found SW fare of 132 r/t BWI-PBI-BWI. Non refundable but full credit towards another ticket if cancelled. I think old Uncle Bobby had it right, Trans-Cons and International is the only future for us unless something drastically changes.

ntm, if you never learn anything else about the consumer markets in this country, learn that consumers here value choice above all else.

When I purchase a ticket, I don't know if I'm going to be in the mood for watching TV or reading a book. If I buy the AA ticket and I want to read a book, I'm fine. If I buy the B6 ticket and I want to read a book, I'm still fine. If I buy the B6 ticket and I want to watch TV, yup, you guessed it, I'm a happy camper. But if I buy the AA ticket and I wanted to watch CNN...uh oh.

You can mock people for their desire to watch TV, but their money spends just as well as the book readers. It's just going to be spent on B6 tickets.

On a 2 hour flight, I would rank TV as the lowest thing. Who really basis's a ticket purchase on the off chance at 3pm 3 weeks from today I might want to catch an infomercial on TV. Even if I was on a flight with that, anything other than a bose headset really makes for wasted experience. Nothing more fun than wanting to sleep or read and having to hear something blaring out of the headsets of the half deaf, toothless hillbilly or the 5 year old ants in the pants sitting next to you.

PS. AA offers many forms on great potion of there aircraft.

And so, Mikey, you would not choose to fly B6 based on the availability of live television. Moreover, you suggest that your unbiased opinion is that you would avoid any airline that provides any form of audio entertainment. Do you think you represent the population as a whole?
