Rumors of US reducing BOS due to WN

The only domestic mainline left at BOS is PHL, CLT, LGA, DCA, PHX, LAS. All other destinations are Express. There are actually more international island mainline destinations, albeit some of them served once weekly.

Not yet, but sometime soon.

The company is still installing in the airplanes the upgraded rudder servos to allow for CAT III. Once that is complete and certified, the pilots are already trained and certified, so it should happen quickly.

Thanks for the update guys. Any time line on this? Will they certify each one as they go or with there be an implementation date for all 25? I'm not on the airplane but who knows...one day i might be.

Ok lets just see how well US defends their PHL-BOS route if and when WN comes into that market. I personally think it's a pretty good possibility. I can't WAIT to see how US reacts. I don't see them beating WN but simply holding their own. That is what US usually does at best against WN is "hold their own". WN pulled out of markets that US was in in the past simply because that a/c could be used in a better market and not because US beat them. It's the same out in PHX. US holds their own. They don't chase WN from any market. PLEASE

You mean as quickly as the upgrade to the Right Recirc Fan on the 757s? Or the Center Fuel Tank pump upgrades? That fast?

Then look for it in, oh, 2025.

The topic is US response to WN at BOS, not US fleet makeup. If we have run out of things to say about the topic, it will be closed. Thank you.

SWA did cut back in PHX, at least from a base standpoint. What they DID do was expand LAS ALOT. My friend is a FA there and she went to LAS because of the cutback at PHX and the expansion in LAS.

The coincidence (?) US at LAS is getting to resemble PIT in the sense that soon it will be a ghost town for US. We currently have the A&B gates there and we loan SWA many gates over there. In fact, they are building a walkway from C (which is all SWA) to B. According to local legends, we may go back to D when the new terminal opens. If anyone can recall we only had 2 gates prior to the merger. AWA still had the A&B gates at the time and they were quite substantial pre-merger.

I realize LAS was not a good O&D market, but was it that bad that we had to pull out that drastically? I know LAS is an economy-driven market, but they still are the largest convention site in the nation and that has the tendency to withstand economic crises.

I realize I just hijacked the thread, but it is along the same lines. Can we see BOS turning into a PIT or LAS?

My Opines are just that!

The last update I had was... October 2007.

AUA, CUN, MBJ, PUJ, GCM & SJU. Not sure if US will be flying BDA this year. It will be interesting to see how B6 responds in BOS. They've been the low fare darling in BOS. Lol. WN will probably add flights to PHL, BWI, MDW and PHX. I don't see them having a BOS-LGA shuttle.

I don't see them having a BOS-LGA shuttle.

Why not? They now own all of ATA's slots at LGA (and, no I don't know how many that is). I just checked Travelocity. The cheapest non-stop, roundtrip BOS-LGA-BOS departing anytime tomorrow and returning anytime on Tuesday is $418 on AA (and, yes I know that is American Eagle). The next cheapest fares are $658 on DL or LCC. United has a non-stop for $828!!!!

(There are some $340 fares on all the above, but...The AA involves a change of planes in RDU! The LCC routes you BOS-PHL-RDU-LGA, etc.)

Do you not think that WN could find a price point in there where they might be able to charge a lower fare for a walk-up and still make a profit? Considering the way the rest of us are gouging the last minute travelers on that route, I would not be surprised to find out that is one of the FIRST routes that WN establishes out of BOS.
